Re: roasting rocks
Those are certainly two ways to get your rocks off.
Undoubtedly, others may have other ways of doing same.

Re: roasting rocks
I always do a quick check of my beans before roasting. I use a large SS roasting dish that I never use and pour my green beans into it and pick through them.
After I have finished the roast the beans get tipped into this dish to cool as it is long and wide enough for them to spread out. Once cooled, I pick through them again to check for bits.
I have found bits of rivetand some small stones that would kill my grinder so I am a bit paranoid as I cannot aford to buy a new grinder atm.

roasting rocks
if the beans start to jump or are flicked out of the breadmaker when you are roasting you may find rocks in the roast. the rock jams under the steel sweeper and then throws itself free and beans go every where.
luckily i realized what was happening and found more rocks in my last roast than ever before--i have found one or two before but this batch of beans had some real breakers in there--- honduras extra bold--- so now i check the beans as i cool them and every now and then a rock may try to get past me and into the grinder
