    Re: new roaster

Do a search on CS for popper roasting and corretto roasting, you should get heaps of info from those.
With the Corretto get a 2nd hand bread machine and a heat gun will get you started plus a cheap fan for cooling. Probably $80-100 range.
    Good luck with your research!!

        Hi JJJ,
        Welcome to Coffeesnobs,

Your best bet is to start off with a popcorn popper to roast, This is simple, relatively inexpensive way to start roasting. Once you have mastered the popper and have caught the roasting BUG, you could then look at either buying a purpose built home roaster or DIY one yourself. ie Corretto Roasting is popular.

I would suggest that you start simple learn the basics then develop from there. You never know, You might do a few batches and realise that it isnt your cup of tea (or coffee so to speak). As Green man said look up Popcorn roasting posts for further ideas.

Happy researching and hope you get the roasting bug soon.

              Hi JJJ

Just bought a Breville Popper from The Good Guys for $35 bucks and a $3 dollar can of campbells soup to use the can as a chimney.

              Did my first roast today.

              It is awesome.

                Re: new roaster

                I beg to differ jjj.

The cheapest one they have is the Whirley-Pop at USD32-95
                Thats about AUD36-60

You can buy a Breville Crazy Popper for AUD40-00
I doubt you can import a Whirley-Pop for less than $3.
