Hi all,
I discovered this site about 3 weeks ago and it has been a godsend. I think Ive read through almost every topic thats been posted and the more I read, the more I wanted to try home roasting.
I ordered a starter pack from Andy last week and bought a popper yesterday. Before I go any further I just have to say that the starter packs are a wonderful idea. Im really looking forward to finding the differences between the six bean varieties.
After the roll of a dice, the Bolivian Colonial Caranavi Organic was decided as the first roast. About six minutes later Ive got these wonderfully chocolate coloured beans cooling in a colander and Ive gotta say it was damn fun!
Its been about 24 hours and Ive just finished my first single origin experience. Made sure the rocky was empty and poured in some beans (oh, the aroma...), filled my double portafilter and inserted into the Gaggia Carezza. Talk about crema!!!! It looked amazing.
Ive never tasted a coffee quite like this. I dont have a well trained palate so excuse the kinda vague description but it reminded me a little of christmas cake - specifically the hint of spiced fruit if that makes sense. Apart from that Im a little at loss to explain the rest of the flavour suffice to say that Im already looking forward to another cup.
Cheers,
Rosco.
