Hi everyone, Ive been a reasonably long-time reader of CoffeeSnobs, and have decided its time to make my first post!
I have a sunbeam em6910 and until now recently thought that roasting my own beans was just too hard, too much effort. But reading through dozens of threads about home roasting here on CS has whet by appetite, and it wasnt long before I found myself off to buy a Cascade Popcorn Popper from the Warehouse and a can of pineapple juice for a chimney, and to get myself a CS starter pack!
Even before my first roast Id read about all the mods you can do to poppers to help slow the roasts, so I managed to remove the top section of the body from my machine. And I also reasoned that the more airflow through the machine while roasting the better, so out with the drill to make holes in the body of the popper and the chimney!
My first roast was 100g of Panama Corsa beans, with 1st crack occurring at 4:30 and roasted to start of rolling 2nd crack at 10:30 (hehe, feels weird to use the lingo for the first time!) It looked good, so into some one-way valve bags it was for a seven day wait! And upon tasting I must say I was surprised how good it tasted, for a simple popcorn popper roasting! I think Im gonna have some fun with the whole roasting experience in the future!
Cheers,
forneva
Oh and heres a pic of my holey roaster, I took some pics and felt like I should share them with someone
