How did you sabotage the bread?

I found the aroma was a good indicator - I roasted the first roast to CS 10 and it was a little disappointing drinkable but nothing to rave about. After modding the popper and getting a longer roast time I took them to CS 11 and got a pleasant roast coffee aroma and the aftertaste was a little like very dark chocolate about 80% cocoa (slightly bitter chocolate). Others may have had better results.

Great news the first bread was a flop so I now have a coffee roaster back ;D ;D

    Hi all,

We roasted 300g Mysore Nuggets this evening in our recently-completed Corretto. FC at 10min, pulled just shy of SC at 21min (bit slow in to get there?). Beans were a nice med-dark colour - I would guess at about CS9-10, though I havent got an actual member card yet...

While Im now used to the fact that the freshly roasted beans dont smell as good as 2-day-old beans (takes a while to develop), a couple of us picked up some very unusual aromas coming from the freshly roasted Mysore Nuggets...

Roast beef. And a touch of mint sauce. No, really. There was this bizzare aroma of roasted meat. Has anyone else picked this up? Nothing wrong with our equipment, although the roast was a little too long... Any ideas?

    Cheers
    Stuart.

I cant agree more, but I will wait patiently (because I have to) for the novelty to wear off. Imagine if I used her hair dryer to dry paint?

Breadmakers are for coffee roasting not making bread!!
Heatguns are for coffee roasting not paint stripping!!
These are basic facts of life for true CSers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Enjoy your roasting experiences...........................gm

If my breadmaking experience is anything to go by, wives have a honeymoon period with their new Breadmakers...but then the cracks start to show (and not just in the loaves!) Theyll eventually lose patience making 3 hr loaves and go back to the instant omega 3, antioxidant rich version! The breadmaker will eventually get bored doing nothing in the pantry, and go for a geez in the backyard...Itll love the peace outside. So when the husband finds it, and puts it to work in 2o minute shifts on beans - not 3 hour shifts on flour (hard labour!)...the BM will never be happier and can retire roasting the perfect bean!
You see, its a marriage made in heaven, isnt it!
Anyway, enough storytelling - good luck Stan!

Couldnt source a second hand one and being a patient person I went and bought one :. Now the problem is the wife wants it to bake bread (that is not what I bought it for >) But she who must be obeyed has first use then it will be converted. Thatis if she agrees. I am the boss in my house or so she told me :

    Hi Safari,

Loved the SO in milk, but it also made a great base for a blend or two.
I blended 4 different Indian beans (there is never anything scientific with me) and it was ok but nothing great, but its all fun. Actually the India Mysore with Mexican Altura 50/50 blend was pretty good in a double flat white.

    Enjoy !!

    Thanks Stan,
Ive got to agree, this roasted bean improved a few days after the roast for me too. Initially, I wasted a few cups with the wrong tamping pressure in the Breville IKON baskets when brewing, but when i got that right, my wife and I were both really impressed. Unfortunately, I promised my sister some for her birthday so im now out of it completely! Do most CSers prefer to roast this bean as single origin or mixed?
Anyway, hope you get the bread machine...my mate asked around at work for a spare BM, and he got a response in about 5 minutes flat! cost = $0
    Goodluck!

My first with Mysore roast was a disaster burnt flavour and very weak coffee flavour, but I was using a popper. The second attempt is in the bag and I will be trying it tomorrow but I think sight and smell are better indicators. The first did not smell as I had expected and looked dark (CS 10) and dry. The second is about CS 11 but has a better aroma and 48 hours after the roast is looking better with some oil apparent. It also took longer to roast as I have modified the popper since the first roast and extended the time - still less than your time but I have less control over the temperature.

I have purchased a HG and a stand to mount it on and am trying to source a cheap Bread maker.

Best of luck I will be waiting to read how it went in the cup.

    1st Roast-India Mysore Nuggets

    Hi CS,
Just wanted to report to CS that after many hours reading and watching the discussion boards here, I got my 1st roast done today with India Mysore Nuggets from the CS Starter Pack. It took 2 attempts though!
On the first roast with a Panasonic BM and Nikita HG, I got the manual settings wrong for both - the HG was running at slow fan speed when I needed to be getting the temp up quickly for 1st crack, and the BM just stopped paddling at minute 10! In the chaos, I was rushing around for a paddle of any type, and ended up with a tent peg to stir the beans for the remaining roast! In all the commotion, I didn;t know if I was into the 1st or 2nd crack so I took a chance and pulled the beans out for cooling - WRONG MOVE...I only had 1st crack...with my tail between my legs, I went back and tried again later.
On the second attempt, I got to start of 1st crack in 11 minutes and 2nd crack at 20 minutes....maybe a bit long hey? The cooled beans looked and smelled great Anyway, cant wait for the first brew with the IKON in a few days.
Thanks to everyone for writing up their experiences on this site, it made it so much easier for me to get up and running today.
