Following on from the success of the NSW/ACT/TAS Roast Off Id like to know if there is any interest from people who would like to develop their roasting skills. Im proposing a two-day course that would look something like this...
Day One - 6 hours
Work with one bean and discuss its qualities, history, etc. as a green bean. Go on from there to develop three to four different roast profiles and get Dudley into action. Try the roast on the same day and take home a sample of each roast, to use through the week, then...
Day Two - 6 hours (one week later)
Cupping of all the roast profiles, including milk-based drinks. Discussing merits and drabacks of each profile and creating SO blends, with further tastings and assessment. Then take away more samples to enjoy at home.
The overall objective would be to gain an intimate knowledge of one particular bean. Other objectives would be to develop skills as a roaster, ie. make better profile predictions; develop skills in tasting coffee, and of course, to have some fun!
Course notes would be provided, including roast profiles. Cost would be between $200-$250 with a maximum number of 6 participants. Lunches included.
As for my credentials, apart from being a professional Roaster, I have a background in Human Resources Management, with post-grad qualifications, specialising in Training.
If you have a genuine interest, Id be happy to hear your thoughts here. Id also be very interested to know if you have other objectives that may be incorporated into the course.
Over to you...
