  • Measuring temperature of corretto?

Can someone tell me whats an inexpensive temperature reading device to use with my corretto?
I dont want to link it to my notepad (dont have one!) -- just want to be able to observe the internal temperature so I can take a few notes and work out over time the perfect cycle for my setup.
Model name and number of device would be a great help.

    Hi

Try and hold out for the "DMM Temperature Data Logger" that will probably come back to bean bay. Others here may have a better idea of when it will be available.

Otherwise just look in Jaycar or Tandy Electronics stores for voltmeters that have a type K thermocouple output and a thermocouple. They will be only about $30 or so. They often sell out then one waits till a cheap model is available again.

If you are looking for this in Oz try from here:
            http://www.chefstoolbox.com.au/products.aspx?sNum=6016

They are pretty good with their post and you get local warranty.

michel_c how does it go, my wife has shown me one in a catalogue but I havent seen it in the flesh, I was thinking of using one on my Quaha if it refreshes quick enough.

            good luck,

            Thomas

              Thomas,
Ill let you know this afternoon/tonight after my first roast with it. It looks the part and was $17 from the US including postage so a fair bit cheaper than the Oz version. Overall if feels like a pretty good unit and with the clock and timer is useful for timing the roast as well.
              Ill post more soon.

Hoe you dont mind me jumping in Anthony.

Can someone also let me know if a contact thrmo is better than a non contact.

I saw one (non) at Jaycar today for $60 the cheapest contact was 39.94 QM1602 + 12.95 for a Probe that will take the heat

                  Re: Measuring temperature of corretto?

                  Shane,

The non contact thermometers are "fooled" by the smoke haze, the air currents in the roaster and various other "effects" whilst roasting..... giving erratic (and generally incorrect) readings.

Contact thermometers (using thermocouples) are far more useful (and accurate) in this application.

                      Anthony,

Tried this afternoon and was great! Worked really well and I just had it sitting into the beans from the top. It would be much better through a hole in the side but since Im borrowing the BM that wouldnt be appreciated.

Postage will be US$7 but theyll ask for a letter from you etc etc youll find out soon. Good luck

                      Mike

Michel, how did you get them to send you a thermometer?

I was all keen to get one of these, then saw on their website that they wouldnt ship outside the US. Same with 1st-line -- quite annoying >

So did they change their policy, or did you have to sweet-talk them?

                          Re: Measuring temperature of corretto?

No issues ... just try emailing them on support@indoorhealthproducts.com . I didnt have to do anything special just send them a letter with authorisation to put it on credit card along with photocopy of both sides of credit card and photo ID. More complicated than most but seemed to work fine.

Ive ordered one just this morning, but explained that I couldnt supply pics of back and front of credit card along with pic of photo id -- my scanner needs repair. And Im not sure of whether its a good idea to supply photo reps of all that info over the internet, when its not needed at all by the credit card companies for payment authorisation -- esp for a $17 with postage transaction!
If they take my order without this paranoiac level of security info, then Ill be happy. If not, safer to pay a bit more locally ...
                            Cheers

What about this one from Oz that Thomas found above? Its a little dearer but does away with the need to send your confidential details all over the planet..... And it appears to be the same as the U.S. one....
