  • Aillio Bullet roast profile for BeanBay's beans

    Hey Everyone,

Inspired by the other thread on the Kaffelogic, I was looking to see if there was anyone out there using the Bullet and wanted to swap notes regarding roast profiles for BeanBay's beans?

I'm only about 30 roasts into the Bullet, and so still trying to figure out what works best.

    I'll Start!
Here's todays roast of Ethiopia Sidamo Ardi Naturals (my first coat of this bean), tasting notes in a week or so.
This is my 6th roast on the Bullet, so I'm still learning myself.

Thanks for posting, I have been looking forward to these graphs. I find the Aillio RoR curve "patchy" or spikey in comparison to Artisan or Cropster graphs. This could just be the software/probe/sensitivity? Seems common on the Aillio, so am curious how it relates to results in the cup. It doesn't look like you have a hard RoR crash.
I usually cup my roasts after 2-3 days, you can easily taste if the roast is baked by then.

Are you tracking temp with ibts or bean probe? Not sure if that will make a difference and yes, it seems spiky to me too but I have no experience of artisan or others.

I suspect that you get raw rather than smoothed ROR. Most programs use an algorithm to make the curve look clean. IBTS is much closer to actual than bean probe temp

I've been trying to think about how to approach an espresso roast for Ethiopian beans, I've currently got some Gambella. Having heard Rob Hoos give some rough parameters for roasting with the bullet (Yellow at 5 mins, FC at 10, 2 mins development) I've been trying to do something to that extent. Just did this yesterday, will give it some time before I test. Would be interested to hear from others about how they're approaching espresso roasting. For some I've seen them shooting for between 9-10mins and others 11-12mins. That seems to be a significantly different approach.Click image for larger version

Here's an Ethiopian I did last week for espresso.
It turned out great, I think it could have a little better if I left the power at 4 near the end to keep the ROR at about 4 - 5 degrees per minute.
I pulled it a couple of degrees before 2nd crack.

I'm not sure what's happened with this thread.
I thought those with Bullets would be using this thread!

Anyway, here's a killer V60 roast for Ethiopian Ardi Late Pick.
It's an absolute fruit bomb, sweet with just the right amount of acidity (for my liking anyway).

(Mrs) Santa brought me a Bullet for Christmas! Having torched some old beans in the name of seasoning the drum I have now done a few test roasts. Having come from my trusty GeneCafe adapting to the Bullet has been a learning curve. It's powerful and fast - my first two roasts were in 2nd crack before I knew it! (Typically I have rarely roasted as far as 2nd crack). With the Bullet there are more dimensions to consider when setting a profile and I am still getting to grips with it... Here is a profile from roast #3 using the excellent CS Burundi. I am 90% happy with the outcome

Here is a roast profile screenshot. I used another user's profile for a Medium roast and made changes on the fly to stretch the roast out towards the end by reducing the 'Power' (temperature) and increasing the 'Fan' (airflow rate)

It's exceptionally cool that you can search for roast profiles in the g lobal community and just press play to run the profile on your own machine

Anyone got a good profile for Ethiopia Harrar Longberry to produce a medium roast?
