Re: Home made coretto: Motor blades...
Wow - thanks everyone. Glad to see a few of you have done this before. the aluminium hub with screws looks ideal. Just need to find a suitable blade now. I guess Ill try and find something curved that will push the beans out. They should hopefully form a kind of convection and the top layer should move towards the centre. Thats the plan anyway.
After Im done I will do a sample roast - see how the motor and blade goes. Worst case scenario Ill shell out the $20 for the higher torque motor. Ill take a few pics and let you all know it goes.
Thanks again for the help - much appreciated.

Re: Home made coretto: Motor blades...
Mmmm, Id reckon that roughly one rev per second is close to ideal. Probably need to watch batch size with that motor though.... Due to centrifugal force, a lot of the beans will end up close to the edge of the bowl and available torque will be significantly reduced out there. Wont be hard to sort out though....Originally posted by Koffee Kosmo link=1224126524/0#3 date=1224136992Grumpy I got the 36 RPM because I thought that 70 RPM may be to fast

Re: Home made coretto: Motor blades...
My motor as in the picture is a Jaycar YG 2734
12 kg torque and 36 RPM cost me $20
Grumpy I got the 36 RPM because I thought that 70 RPM may be to fast
The coupling I made myself
Jaycar has some couplers here

Re: Home made coretto: Motor blades...
I dont think you can call it a corretto, which is a converted breadmaker.
I too thought about building something like you plan to because I was having trouble finding a BM.
Unfortunately I didnt get far enough in the build to answer your question.
Thats a nicely priced motor youve found.
It cost me that much for a 2nd hand wiper motor of unknown rpm.

Re: Home made coretto: Motor blades...
Hi Grumpy
You will need to place a vertical piece of material and use a small exhaust U clamp
Alternatively you can use something like this spring clamp
You wont need a chaff collector as the heat gun will blow it all away

Home made coretto: Motor blades...
Hi All,
Been popper roasting for a while now, and decided to up the anti to a coretto so I dont have to roast as often.
Ive bought a few parts to build it. So far Ive got:
Rounded Stainless Steel Bowl
12V DC power supply
12V, 70 RPM motor
Air Gun
Double end Clamp
Bench
So thats almost it.. unfortunately I cant find anything good to use to attach to the motor to churn the beans when I turn it on. Heres the motor I got: http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=YG2732&CATID=&keywords=12v+moto r
Has anyone done this before? What did you use for the blade? Im also not sure where to drill a hole for the thermocouple Im sure the blade will hit it. I want the blades to be as close to the bottom of the bowl as possible to be able to curn all the beans.
How about chaff collecting? Any ideas? Or do you all just let it fly all over the place...
Thanks for all your advice.
