Re: Help: I cleaned my steam tip and now i cant froth milk anymore

Thanks for your suggestions. I have finally solved the problem by programming more steam pressure and less steam heat. My EM6910 now uses the pumprate -0.2 seconds off setting and the steam temperature to -10c.

This seams to have fixed my problem by allowing me to swirl the milk for a longer period of time to dissolve any larger bubbles as well as a more consistent steam pressure and "dryer" steam.

On another note , i was at my friends cafe on the weekend and had a go of her GIME 2 Group machine (first time on a commercial machine in 6 years since i did hospitality at TAFE)

let me just say that its a shame i dont have the bench space to fit the $6,000 machine at my home. The milk was unbelievably silky and needless to say i was quite surprised that my skills on the home machine were able to be tranferred in my first attempt on a commercial machine.

I was having so much playing with the GIME that i missed out on going to the state barista championships at A.I.R

If you find that the hole (is there only one?) is clean and has possibly been made too large through cleaning off the crust, then a bit of copper wire threaded into the tip could increase pressure.

(If there are two holes or more then threading the wire through is easy, if only one then youll need to bend it enough sideways inside the tip to stop it from being blown out.)

Way to give me a lesson in cleaning and maintenance...what im wondering is how come it steams better milk when theres a tiny bit of build up in the steam hole?

And i used a paperclip because that was the only thing that i had handy that fitted into the hole.

I heard that more pressure is better for steaming. is it possible that there is not enough "pressure" anymore since the hole has essentially been widened?

Can not give an answer with out seeing the back side of the tip...

The SB cleaning tool is handy... It is in the back door along with the rubber blind..

Unless you doubled the hole size .. No major difference.. Have fitted a number of tips and all perform teh same.. IF ya system is clean.

When did you last do a Back flush and a De Scale and with what product ?

Are you using filtered water or have been changing the SB filter every few months ?

Sorry... Your asking for answers when we can only guess at the way teh unit has been treated /managed and any number of things can have a negative impact..

It is said over and over again... A little TLC goes a long way..

    Hi guys,
Im wondering if any of you can help me. Recently i cleaned the tip out of my steam head nozzle on my EM6910, it wasnt all that dirty as i always purge and wipe after frothing. So after poking it with a paperclip and purging i attempt to froth my milk.

To my discust i find that the milk  struggles to get any air into it and the steam pressure fluctuates causing the milk to swirl irratically which leads to large bubbles that cannot be reduced, ultimately leading to me tipping the milk down the sink.

Heres the thing, I had a similar problem about a year ago when the 6910 was new (I had been using a EM6900 for about 1.5 years prior which has a similar wand, so im ruling out that i was a newbie)

Only a week ago i was able to pour nice rosettas with a smooth meranguie microfoam.

It seams to me that the steam hole may be too large but it becomes just right after it gets a little clogged with milk cake (i know what your thinking....eeeeeewwwe)

Anyhow, does anyone know why this is happening?
    PaperClip ... WHAT a paper clip ??

Why not use the tip cleaning tool that SB provide ???  It is with teh rubber blind that you use every two weeks to back flush ?

In many cases all ya do is push more crap up the spout..   Only do when totally blocked... Should never happen unless miss use  :

Unscrew teh tip and clean from behind and also check out the main tube...   Soak the tip in the coffee cleaner your using to clean ya group and baskets.. When you look from behind you should see a clean step to the small exit hole... Bet it is all gunked up...

A little TLC can go a loooooggggg  way.  :-*

Run the system with no tip... Should see clouds of hot / warm moist air being produced...
