Is it a 3-hole steam tip on the La Pavoni? If so, my experience is that they need a very different action than the steam arm on an Atomic or even a Silvia. Principles are the same, but you need to try different angles and play with where you position the tip in relation to the centre/sides of the jug (the Pavoni I use requires very little air sucked into the milk and it does better if the jug is not angled and the steamer tip in the centre; my Silvia needs a bit longer in the air-sucking dept and its single-hole tip needs a good angled entry near the side of the jug; the Atomic is the most forgiving steamer, I think). I dont use the pavoni often enough to have mastered microfoam with it, but theres nothing stopping you from doing so.
