It will be interesting to see if the Nemox ones go up too.. hmm...
    They may well do Lachlan,

Its hard to say though, given how these machines get re-badged from each of the err, manufacturers :-?,

Re: Nemox Dell Opera / Fenice Steam Wand Mod!

      Hi all,

Just revisiting this one as I was recently placed in exactly the same situation as Lachlan.

Maybe Nemox steam wands differ, but the thread on mine was a regular non-tapered thread. As Lachlan pointed out, removing the steam tip leaves you with not much wand, so a new tip alone wasnt an option. To fit a proper steam tip (and in this case I opted for a Silvia tip) it was just a matter of making an adapter to go between the two, which having a lathe and a bit of excess stainless steel was easy enough to do. The other good thing about the Nemox is that having a ball jointed steam wand I could make the wand long enough to get right down into a 600ml jug and still have enough swing to remove it without tipping the jug.

The hardest bit was getting it to all look neat, as while stainless and chrome go OK the extension had to be larger in diameter than the original wand in order for it to screw on the original thread (which I wanted to retain in case for some unearthly reason the original tip was required!). For this I used a 35 degree chamfer to blend from the original wand to the extension, which was about the best I could do other than cutting the old thread off and tapping one on the inside and then using a butt joint. At the steam tip end theres just an internal chamfer to roughly match that of the Silvia tip so it recesses inside the wand neatly.

For others who may want to do the same thing, the thread on the Nemox wand is a fine M6 (M6x0.75) and the thread on the Silvia steam tip is a fine M5 (M5x0.8), and the extension piece is about 40mm long.

Re: Nemox Dell Opera / Fenice Steam Wand Mod!

Since posting the above, a few people have contacted me asking if something like this can be made for their Nemox machine. It was only intended to be a one-off which is why I posted all the details about how to make it rather than keeping it commercial in confidence, but if youre interested in this and dont want to make it on your own lathe that you just happen to have out the back please email me; if I have an idea of how many I need to make itll be easier to work out whats going to be the best and cheapest way of doing it.

Never mind about my earlier post in your other thread about this steam tip mod, Lachlan. I have found it. The pictures dont work though? PS. Im interested in doing a similar mod in the future. Ive PMd Greg in response to his post above.

Apologies for the very late discovery of this thread.

Re: Nemox Dell Opera / Fenice Steam Wand Mod!

Well its three years since I made the extension above and I cant say Ive been flooded with enquiries, and despite spending much time getting a number of quotes making things like this just isnt viable commercially. I kinda hoped that by releasing the specs to the world it would encourage someone with a bit more time to take this on! But looks like there were no takers.

After much consideration, assisted by the ability to easily source 2010 Silvia tips (unlike the early ones) and the trickle of enquiries imploring me to produce these, Ive redesigned this extension to fit the 2010 tip. The Nemox / Quaha / Imat have the same size boiler as the Silvia (300ml) so its a good donor. Ill still have to make these extensions one by one (at least for now) - but it means they ARE available! Cost is $70 plus shipping.

So those who have been waiting in the wings and suffering with their existing one, hopefully there is now an alternative. I no longer have access to one of these machines so I cant test the one Ive made. I also hope the specs of the wand on the current units havent changed!

Ill contact those who have contacted me already about this and this first unit will go out to one of those.

If youre interested please email me greg_at_coffeetamperDOTcomDOTau.

Im interested, but after 6 months of using my machine Ive managed microfoam with the current tip, and I just spent my surplus money on a Pullman tamper

I bought the extension off Greg and its great so much more freedom to get the right angle through the milk jug. Fitted up to a almost new Lelit PL041 ;D
