    Re: Soy Milk?!?!

After reading this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soybean I see as many reasons to avoid soy milk as there are to use it, think Ill just stay with moo.

She swears by the original Vitasoy (red) but also enjoys the calci-plus vitasoy (purple) that I use at my work. She says that Vitasoy blends well with coffee, where as Bonsoy "cuts" the coffee.
    Im a Calci-Plus fan!

As a side note as a barista, I find long-life Soy is very difficult to use. Its very difficult to steam, and is very watery. The refridgerated "fresh" Soy is a lot easier, and produces nice micorofoam. I dont know if there is a difference in taste. Ill give you an update in the near future.
I personally dont find any real difference in flavour or usability between the fresh and longlife Vitsasoys. I prefer the fresh on principle but always have a few longlifes at home in the cupboard.

    Re: Soy Milk?!?!

The problem with soy milk is that the taste varies hugely, and a lot of it comes down to preference for individual soy drinkers.

I like my soy milk lighter, so I prefer Soy Milky, or the Aldi organic, or Bonsoy over red Vitasoy or most of the Sanitarium milks *shudder*

But all soy milk gets ruined when people dont know not to heat it the same as cow milk... Ugh, burnt latte.

Cheers beanflying and thanks for the welcome.

I dont find So Natural to be sweet at all, whereas Pure Harvest can get pretty sweet. I think you need to take the Pure Harvest off the steam wand a bit earlier than normal to avoid it from getting too sweet. Having said that Pure Harvest would be my next choice in particular when I want a change to vary it up a little bit.

Be careful of those milkshakes / ice creams. Gotta nail the milk every time for those customers!

    Re: Soy Milk?!?!

    Hi Al and welcome

I used about 5 litres of the same Soy Natural over the weekend with commercial customers, feedback was positive, not to sweet and good flavour so I gather it might be a good one until the Bonsoy thing is resolved. I still didnt get up the courage to try it myself ;D

Apart from one milkshake load I mucked up : the rest was fairly easy to handle my end as a soy steaming novice.

    Re: Soy Milk?!?!

I have been using So Natural since Bonsoy was taken off the shelves.

    I have found the following:
    - Easy to create whirlpool and microfoam
    - Holds heat well for soy (similar to Bonsoy); can take off steam wand at same temps as normal milk = Good for latte art
    - Smooth taste
    - readily available from supermarkets etc
    - good price at ~ $2

Will be interesting to see what you guys think

still a big fan of the So Good from the fridge. Dark blue (regular) only, all other variations taste terrible. As does the long-life stuff. This is the only one that has a good amount of body and very little taste gets in the way of the coffee.

I actually like the pure harvest "natures soy"
Yes, I like this one too. Im now back on cows milk and have been for a long time, but after having to do a soy stint for a while I actually stayed on soy for my cereal - I prefer soy on cereal than cows milk.

Im using the Pureharvest Natures Soy and loving it.

Vitasoy Cafe is only supplied to cafes.
Vitasoy Cafe(barristers) is not as nice as the normal Vitasoy (Red).  We were using the cafe series but I think it makes your coffee taste a bit burned.  Texturing is pretty much the same on both IMO.  (whereas the barristers full cream / skim is really easy to get smooth foamy milk - from daily farmer btw).

    Re: Soy Milk?!?!

Just started using the vitasoy cafe and getting some good responses from my soy customers. They like it even more when I tell them it is lower in sugar and fat!!! I have tasted it and I cant say I will be switching but it is easier to microfoam.

I cant stand cane sugar in my soy if used in coffee - Sungold to me tastes a bit like coke it has so much sugar...so beware if you too dont like cane sugar in your soy.
Hmm.. sounds like I might have had this soy milk at a cafe in Melbourne. It had a weird sweetness about it and did not go down well.

I think Ill stay away from this one.

Ive looked, but havent seen it on any supermarket shelves.Perhaps because its a little dearer than the other Vitasoys and there is already a lot of competition for shelf space?

*Vitasoy Cafe (as used by Den, Cuppacoffee) - hard to get unless youre a cafe (?)
Yes, I took my non-dairy partner to Cuppacoffee recently and we were wondering which Soy would be used on the way there. My partner commented as she came over to where I was in Cuppacoffee, carrying her hot choc (yes she is one of those non coffee drinkers too) that it was Vitasoy which she has been unimpressed with off the supermarket shelf, but then proceeded to drink it and state the soy milk was very good - not like the Vitasoy she had tried before.

    On my list to try:
    Pure Harvest
    Sungold
Vitasoy Calci-Plus (tried this a while back and remembered it had quite a lot of sugar added)
