A good jar, with a well-sealing lid (I used yellow-lidded peanut butter jars).Originally posted by afton link=1216756496/0#0 date=1216756496Ive got a Brikka pot and so far its doing a pretty good job,
now Im still saving up for a Silvia & Mazzer Mini,
in the mean time Id like to get my hands on cappuccino,
any recommendation for a stand alone milk frother?
Microwave oven.
Put milk in jar and heat in microwave.
Put on lid tightly and carefully.
Shake jar for 10 seconds.
Pour.

Can I just add, that a good grinder enables one to get the best out of the coffee, before it goes into any machine.

Re: Stand alone milk frother
I was able to start with both an excellent machine and excellent grinder, but the circumstances at the time allowed for that.
I didnt have to start at the bottom and waste money in the long run with upgrade after upgrade.
lizard, the point is that everyones situation is different.
But, to make the best decision for yourself you need to know all the facts.
Fact # 1: A good grinder can bring the best out of a not so good machine.
Fact # 2: A good machine will not make its best coffee with an inadequate grinder.
Providing people are aware that they will be spending money in the short term that may be wasted in the long term, then it is their decision to make.
The beauty of this site is that newcomers can benefit from the experience of others.

Re: Stand alone milk frother
You may be correct lizzi in that but its a matter of cost to most people, if you spend 800 on a machine and 800 on a grinder and then find you wish to upgrade the machine, you will more than likely go up in value on the machine spending 1500 upwards depending on how far you go, if you want to upgrade your grinder to some thing like a min mazzer its only going to cost you around 700. Personally I would be much happier finding out later how much better my impressive machine performs when I can afford a good grinder. I thought my sunbeam made good coffee until I saved up for the isomac, imagine how happy i am going to be when i finally can afford the mini mazza!! (about 6 months, barring natrul disasters, or the car failing the pink slip)

Re: Stand alone milk frother
mmm, t were nice if the coffee-world revolved like that.. but unfortunately the grinder IS TRULY the most important bit of coffee making equipment and it really should be first on both budget and the shopping list, not second.Originally posted by fishinglizard1972 link=1216756496/0#4 date=1220696153hey afton, your saying that your saving for the silvia and the minnie mazzer, thats around 1600 combined, why dont you go for the better machine for 1600 and go with an inferior grinder? I was going to get a mazzer and machine combo, but decided to put the 700 odd for the grinder into the machine and stick with the old grinder for while longer, not sure what other people think and I know the grinder counts but for me i think the grinder should be compramised for the better machine, when your talking that kind of money??Originally posted by afton link=1216756496/0#0 date=1216756496Ive got a Brikka pot and so far its doing a pretty good job,

a lesser grinder can make the most expensive and impressive machine produce cr@# coffee, whereas a great grinder can, with some care and technique, lift a mediocre machine to respectable coffee heights
for me it is a lesson learnt through experience :-[ , never forgotten and gladly passed on 8-)
cheers,

Re: Stand alone milk frother
decent standalone frother costs quite a lot too (not so many of them on the market anyway)... I guess just wait till you buy Silvia (or something else, who knows, you may decide to go for a different option at the last moment, like I usually do). Dont waste your money on bad stuff...
