    Re: Breast milk coffee

My wife finished breast feeding about 6 years ago. curiosity go the better of me one day so had to try it. (expressed) then the formula. The latter is absolutly horrible. I think babies only drink it because they havent had espresso yet! one they had there would be no going back.

My wife had twin lads 5yrs ago ... one of them took to the breast no probs, but the other wouldnt - so it was formula for him. Worked out logistically a good balance back then, as I could relieve the double-whammy feeding burden on mum (er, I did the formula feeds ;D).

Couldnt bring myself to tasting mothers milk, it seemed rather weird, & the lad needed the calistemon (I think thats what its called) more than I.

I did however sample the formula - once & once only - & agree with you CI. Quite repulsive. Kinda like powdered clay with water added - grainy & dirty feeling on the palate, & when swallowed I recall Clag glue came to mind as the regrettable taste sensation.

No way was that being added to my morning espresso :P

Its colosterum. And they only get it for the first few days, than the milk changes again...

sounds disgusting. But who knows, someone is obviously game to try it.

Formula No way.. Do not like it at all...

As for the real stuff... Very sweet and nothing yuck about it...

One of the BioMeds at work is part of a breast feeding and education group... Her best efforts was 750ml expressed in one sitting.

There are places OS where they pay up to 10Ero /L for breast milk.. It is then treated and available for purchase. Usually mothers who can not produce their own. However members of the general public, can and do purchase.

NOTE: Early historians have many documented cases where the Rich and Nobel across many societies and cultures around the world; had wet nurses. Not just when they were young but right through their adult lives...

At the end of teh day there is nothing wrong with the product... It is our culture and the emotions etc that we place on the actual act, that get in the way.

How interesting is that. When my wife was born her mum had such an oversupply that most of the special care nursery was fed on her milk (expressed of course). When our first was born she was in special care being tube fed as she was 7 weeks premmie and had no suck reflex. My wife was producing enough milk for her and 2-3 other babies but health and safety laws prevented any other baby from having it. Thinking back we could have been rich at EURO 10 / L.

WHS and over the top risk assessment etc sometimes misses the point...

In the prem section at some hospitals to day, they are working hard to come up with a process to treat but not destroy the quality of mothers milk...

The fore milk and colosterum is so vital for a good of the immunization system that Drs, Staff and Mothers are working to get it fully accepted and to manage the risk.

So often while we think we are making progress, we actually go backwards...

                  Re: Breast milk coffee

I find that the milk seperates in the cup but it is worth noting that breast milk can be frozen for up to six months which is pretty good for an extended shelf life...
