Re: Coles SmartBuy vs A2 Milk

Bought some A2 the other day and had the same issues with steaming milk. I have now switched to Demeter Organic milk and finding the results much more pleasant.

Ive been a huge fan of A2 milk for quite some time now, doubt i could go back to anything else, let alone no name stuff.
    Its just so smooth. ;D

Permeate admits a horrible smell when being made. You can actually smell the difference when it comes to certain milks. If u grab a bottle of pura(if in melbourne, in sydney pura is parmalat), crack the lid, smell it then compare it to a milk without permeate...it just plain stinks.(try procal, riverina)
I was talking to a Dairy Farmers Employee at the coffee biz expo and he swore black and blue that there was no permeate in their milk which is surprising yet good for NSW anyway. Doesnt help Melbourne though. Lucky Procal is in Sydney and Melbourne.

Im currently finding my A2 hard to froth. Maybe my skills have gone wack. Who knows..
Its a well known fact (though I found a pro barista who didnt know this last week) that during the change from summer to winter and visa versa, the protein levels in cows milk drops for a while as they change feeds.

Im sure this has been discussed ad-nauseum on the forums before, but Im too lazy to go searchin

Same here. I was buying A2 with great results. Then suddenly too thin. Back to Pura and now all is good.

I honestly never know if its me or the milk !!!!

Thanks AM, Id already searched their site extensively but it doesnt have a where to buy section, unfortunately.  I even googled "Where Can I Buy Norco Milk in Ipswich, Qld" to no avail..

Probably if we were closer to the coast, I might have a bit more luck, but it may be that were too far inland to get it.

As a small aside, about 12 years ago, Pete and I were travelling down from Townsville, Qld to Taree, NSW in July to attend a wedding...ours!  We stopped at Walcha for some petrol. It was -5 degrees at the time and I literally sat on the servos pot belly stove and had one of the nicest malted milk drinks Ive ever had in my life and Ive never had one that comes close since.

That malted milk drink was a Norco Malted Milk and, ever since, Ive been searching high and low for it with no luck.

I had hoped that moving to South-East Queensland might find me in luck in being able to buy it again...so the search continues!
Sometimes it is the whole experience and not just the item..  Just like smells and sounds etc that invoke old memories that can never be recaptured.....

Did you e-mail them..  Have done that before and had a good outcome.. No harm in trying..

We get our milk delivered and he is great... Any thing ya want.. Just add it to the list..

No bottles and foil tops but....

Well, Im having all sorts of problems finding somewhere locally in Ipswich that I can get Norco from.  If anyone has any suggestions, Id love them!

I bought a new brand of milk this morning from the Super IGA at Brassal - "Barambah Organics" which is produced on the Qld/NSW border.  Its a pasteurised non-homogenised milk and has a layer of cream on the top.  It tastes beautiful cold fresh, but - as has been mentioned before - didnt microfoam too well when heated.  Im still trying to get used to the taste because it tastes really, really creamy which, from my first taste, overpowered the coffee a bit.  Ill stick with it for a while, though, because its a local milk and wholely Australian owned and operated, which highly appeals to me.  It wasnt cheap at $4.99 per 2L, but - once again - Id rather my money going into local produce than being a multi-national corporation.

Norco, Norco, wherefore art thou Norco???

    Cheers

http://www.norco.com.au/ may be of some assistance OR move to a different location

interesting - weve always just used the coles smart buy milk here and Ive been able to texture it with great microfoam... until about a week ago... now its absolutely hopeless - soap suds! argh!

Based on this thread - might well be time to try some A2 milk - if nothing else, at least until later in the year

And there I was thinking Id suddenly forgotten how to texture milk (overnight!)

Well the world is full of suprises. I started using A2 milk after getting a bottle of it on special, because I liked the taste with my cerial then discovered it was better in my coffee as well but only after reading this made the connection with my eczema & dandriff. Ijust went to look in the mirror & yes the red patch on my face has almost totally gone. The things you find out on coffee snobs! Beebee
