    Hello guys,

My Nemox Fenice is not as pleasing to steaming milk, I've tried everything, from what I saw this topic gregpullman the adaptations made by placing the tip of the barrel of Silvia. This greatly improves? It's hard to get that pipe? I ask because I live in Brazil.

    hugs.

I just have a standard tip on Mokita combi and thought of swapping as I wasnt happy with my micro foam. Then I tried a new method of steaming. I put the steam button on and about 5 seconds after purge the wand of water and start steaming. I never run out of steam and can get a really good vortex going. Much better than waiting for the light to go out, then steaming.

    Hi everyone,

Just sharing my experiences and what I have done thus far with my Nemox Fenice steam wand. I had a custom adapter/tip made out of brass to help with length and to remove the enhancer

What I did experience yesterday was a leak coming from the ball joing of the steam wand.  I then noted that this is in fact removeable... this means you could easily buy another steam wand (Silvia/whatever) and give it a M6x0.75 male thread and install it.  I should have taken pics to illustrate this.

Here is a pic I found of the standard wand, see the threaded part on the top which screws into the ball joint:

Ill probably buy this  Breville 800es wand and try the above, its cheap and has a similar OD of the wand is a very close match to my fenice wand.

Hope this provides some other people with some options around what thtey can do.

The new Lelit comes with a ball-joint steam wand. Is it possible to replace the old models stubby steam wand for this new one?

Ill have to work out how to get the measurements without dismantling the machine. 0
    Ill keep tinkering.
Crankster, did you have any luck with this type of mod? I have recently acquired a QUAHA with the same style wand and was pondering if I could retrofit my old IKON steam wand (also ball-joint)...

The lag I dont think is huge issue, I think your average probe in general is more the issue, the three I have used all gave a different reading, so you have to be wary of that, and that they are slow to read changes in general.

Right now Im backing the steam off when its just about to hit 60C and its coming in a bit above, though I dont think there is anything wrong with backing off when its nearing 65C if you want hotter milk, I know with the 60ish the coffee is drinkable right away, closer to 70C and its a lot hotter, good if your putting it in a take away cup for when your out the door somewhere.

Talking about videos, I put on youtube a video of me pulling a double shot on the Lelit with the coffee beans roasted on another video (link on video).  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WrDyB2yiBY

I think Ill have to do a video on for frothing the milk to finish off the story (maybe when I get better at it).  The roasting video was on the second roast.  Since then Ive made a better agitator and I now use a 12 volt air-bed pump to cool down the beans.  A friend of mine saw the video and noticed I used compressed air and said that compressor oil may be contaminating the beans.  But I was already using the air-bed pump by then for convenience and for the much higher volume of air.

About the steaming temp lag - I did notice the temp will continue to climb after turning off the steam and have been taking that into consideration. Some things I pick up naturally, other things I need to slapped several times in the head to get it!

Ok, I was half through making a cup, and realized the camera was in the next room, so grabbed it for a quick video...
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Q6QHx5JPzM

This was using my new 300ml jug, which I really like, when your working with the right jug they seem to have a sweet spot for volume, and right size means almost no wastage.

Method was just a bit below the surface, crank on the steam sort of lower a bit while moving off center, vary to edge of jug trying not to break surface, move in depending on how much swirl you get so as not to overflow the jug, keep just below for about half the time and lower into the milk after though as it bulks this is not as necessary.

And this was an average effort from me, I have done smoother, you can see its a little bit bubbly at the end, but it pours well and has a nice feel in the mouth, Im guessing many can do a lot better than me.

By the way - I saw on youtube one expert suggesting to heat the milk to 70 degrees, which I have since been doing. Ill reset the target to 60 as suggested by you and most others
If using a thermometer theres some lag involved, so by the time it says 60 degrees and the thermometer pulled out,it would have reached the 65 degrees holy grail.

Looking forwards to more feedback from yours and other Lelits as i have been eyeing off those babies for quite some time now.

Thanks Gary - sorry to have you repeat (again!) whats been said so many times here, but reading is one thing and doing is another thing altogether.  Yep, its trial and error which is not helped by the fact that I try to have no more than one coffee per day - maybe 2 if Im daring.  But Im stoked to have gotten on top of at least creating microfoam with depth, so if I cant do art I know the drink will be enjoyable.

    Thanks again Gary - Cheers!

Re: Quaha/Nemox/Lelit Steam Wand and Tip

    Youre welcome Moccacino.

Just keep practising and youll get to fine tune with the machine.
The Lelit being a boiler machine, the steaming ability is more efficient than the Sunbeams, so the technique i outlined is adapted for my machine, but the tweaking of the same technique is the key to success.

For Rancilio and Lelit users, may i suggest not to gulp air too much initially, otherwise like Moccacino found out the level of microfoam is too much, holding back the milk somewhat thus causing panic. ;D
Just do one or two quick gulps at the start, then whirlpool the milk with the tip just below the milk to break the large bubbles into smaller finer bubbles.
When temperature approaches 40 degrees celcius approx. dip tip to 1 cm below surface to texture the milk.
With the Sunbeam i maintain the tip just below the surface until completion.
Whats important too is to stop steaming once it reaches 60 degrees. Any hotter and separation of foam and milk occurs.

Hope this helps you and others further. Always a pleasure to help.

Re: Quaha/Nemox/Lelit Steam Wand and Tip

Hi all.  The last post I said that by purging the steam wand one more time gave me good results.  But it was not the answer, as I still had failures where the milk was just heated - flat!  Then I recently read a post that Gary at Gala wrote; he said to bring the tip just off/on the surface at the beginning to allow a gulp or two of air to be dumped into the milk.  From there, the milk is aerated and the hot steam jet will breakdown the air pockets into fine microfoam.  The problem I now have is the standard Lelit steamer/tip is too effective, causing the foam to be on the thick side making it difficult to do coffee art.  I will put back on the Electra tip with its 3 fine jet holes, and take it from there.

Just a message to Gary - thanks for being courteous enough to write what is essential information to us amateurs.  Your little bit of help goes a long way.  All the best!
