    Re: Milk-in-coffee intolerance

Anyone who is lactose intolerant like I am, can get lactase supplements from; http://lacteeze.com.au

I recently ordered both drops and tablets and they arrived the next day in the post.

I put 4 drops in a litre of milk or often take a tablet before eating out and get no discomfort from my problem.

I have no trouble with the amount of milk in a macchiato.

No... Advertise ya equipment in the for sale section
No. I like my shiny coffee making equipment, even if I drink only two a week

Im not keen to start using Lacteeze as relying on lactase supplements will stop my ability to digest milk completely. No more ice cream then!

On a side note, I had a hot chocolate and was quite sick after.

        Re: Milk-in-coffee intolerance

I have a friend who comes over for coffee and often brings me a bottle of A2 milk. If he has any other milk, he gets problems.

Apparently its the absence of the A1 protein, which triggers intolerance in some.

        give it a go.

Ive had to cut back severely on my coffees of late because I cant handle the milk at all. Its very strange as I can have all other dairy (cheese, ice cream, milk in cereal) with no problems.

Does anyone have any idea why this is? My only thought is that it has to do with heating the milk.

          Anyone else have this problem?
          Morning all
If anyone has read August edition of Beanscene magazine, it does mention in there regarding the trend of coffee consumption as the thing to be seen doing, asians are somewhat lactose intolerant.
Soy based drinks are popular there regardless whether it,s in China or south east asia.
Soy drinks there are laced with sugar, and is normally drunk as is. Here in Australia, a good number of people drink Soy with coffee and used in cooking due to the fact that they are intolerant.
Soy milk here does not contain as much sugar as the asian counterparts.

Interesting to know milk in coffee affects some people here. Keep it simple. Try a black coffee, or try steamed milk on their own and keep tabs. Might be surprised some clean their machines with chemicals and forget to flush out

              Most Asians are lactose intolerant.

Theres a good chart on the Wikipedia article showing lactose intolerance by region and nationality.

                Re: Milk-in-coffee intolerance

Not all lactose intolerants are Asian, I’m not.

When I became aware of being lactose intolerant about 10 years ago I started to drink my coffee as macciato. At that time not many baristas knew what a macciato was. It is better known now.

There are many other food intolerances and allergies other than lactose. My lactose intolerance started overnight. I became a fart factory and when going out I had to plan where the toilets were.

For a start I thought that I had food poisoning. When it didn’t improve I was tested by doctors for everything from HIV aids, to bowel cancer. The answer was lactose.

I can handle yoghurt, butter, cheese and small amounts of ice cream and lots of macciatos without any noticeable effects.

I cannot diagnose other people’s problems but suggest they have medical tests. Then they will know what foods to dodge or what supplements they can take. I use Lacteeze.

Not going to disagree with u right there TG, but that figure mostly likely  refers to China.
In south east asia, that figure would be quite less.
Being a malaysian chinese from Malaysia originally, a good number of people have coffee with milk, namely condensed milk for breakfast and thru the day.
A popular choice is Kopi Tarek, a brew of hot black coffee poured from a height down into a latte sized glass with condensed milk on the bottom, then it,s up to the drinker to stir and drink it down with roti canai or chok(rice porridge with deep fried breadsticks).
In China, the young ones dont have much of a problem with milk based drinks compared to the elderly folk who prefer a cup of chinese tea which explains the increasing number of coffee shops springing up there and it,s the "in" thing to do for the yuppies and trendies.
As a child growing up in Malaysia which consist of a good cross section of malays, chinese and indians, i didnt come across too many who are intolerant, so yeah, i guess that figure points to China and perhaps Japan.

If you read in detail youll see they didnt test any Southeast Asians or Asian Americans for example but they did test Thai.

The data is not 100% comprehensive but I think it gives a fair assessment.

Not only is the data not 100% comprehensive but in some cases not accurate. Wikipedia is compiled by those like you and me.
It,s a good source for general information but one has to be careful about getting absolute to the mark information on that site.

My nephew studies physical science at uni. He never trust it for information he would use towards his distinction, but as for ballpark info especially for lower school aged children, it can be depended on.

As a food related problem in Malaysia, more have heart disease due to high coconut intake.

What do you mean contradict each other?

                            Here,s a paste from Wikipedia....
