    Re: Angus Milk

Hi Herbie, yes, I realise Demeter certified milk is all over Australia I was just referring to the one that Demeter have actually branded themselves and yes, it comes from the farm you mentioned near Nathalia/Waiia. Its amazing stuff - i visited the farm a couple of years ago when still in drought - it was amazing in comparison to the barren country around it. Are you milking cows at Deni?

Yes jimmys I am milking cows near Deni and have been here doing so for 30 years. My Missuss Dad had a Soldiers Settlement dairy farm at Boorcan and also later one at Barongarook before she married me. I notice you are in the Otways not that far from these places. A total of 50 years knowledge of milking for her. All that time she has drunk unpasteurised milk and she has never had any problems with illness caused by such. Such milk so good and creamy. Now we produce milk for M.G. who market the Barista Milk product.
Experimenting with and tasting many milks in our coffees is so much fun.
Enjoy the Demeter milk. The Demeter milk prices I quoted per litre were found on the internet.

No worries. The price I got was probably a wholesale and not a retail. I would expect it to be around the $3/L mark retail (although not as high as $3.60/L).
I dont drink milk so I cannot comment on the flavour. However it textures very very nice.

Our price at the moment is 47 cents per litre for superb milk.
          (slightly off the Angus topic)

Seriously? That is all you get for all the capital outlay and huge endless effort?

Thats nasty, worse when Coke is 4 times the price and Petrol is 3 times the price. Surely a healthy staple should be in the same ball park.

So what milk do you use by choice?
ie: do you ever buy milk or do you mostly use your own unpasteurised?

I was standing in the queue at woolworths this morning getting a bottle of water (600mL) for $2.40, and looked over at the $2 milk for 2L. Made me sad.

I wish we had access to more products where the producers are treated fairly. Farmers markets do this really well. How good would it be if there was a way to easily buy great milk direct and pay the producer? CS milk anyone?

There is no way Ill buy the cheap stuff like $1/L milk from the biggies as their motivation is pretty obvious.

Hi Herbie, I grew up on a dairy farm in Ardmona near Shepparton - recently moved to a farm near Forrest. raising organic (and later BD when I get time) beef to sell directly to punters. I notice you have an Otto - hows it going? I recently got one - still trying to get good milk texturing.
