    Has anyone tried replacing the 2 hole tip on the cool touch wand of the isomac tea due with the 4 hole (.9mm) tip from 5 senses coffee? Can I mention 5 senses on this sight? I want to know if it is too many holes for the isomac tea to keep good pressure. And whether or not anyone has had more luck getting micro foam with it than from the cool touch wand tip that comes with the machine. I suspect it is the tip that is causing me to fail at micro foam. Thanks.

    Never dealt firsthand with the Isomac range, but if you're having trouble with the 2 hole tip I doubt the 4 hole tip will help. Generally speaking, the lesser holes the tip has, the easier the microfoam will be to achieve, and visa-versa. The other thing the number of holes has control over is how fast the milk will steam; so the 4 hole tip may be harder to achieve good microfoam but it will get to temperature a lot faster than the 2 hole tip.

    How long have you been working with this machine? What's the general technique you're using? Milk? Boiler pressure?

      Not a fan of cool touch steam wands.

      Both my Isomac Mondiales had hot wands but their two hole tips were magic for perfect milk.
      Aaron is right though, a 4 hole tip won't help. You don't mention any prior experience....... have you gone from good to bad by changing machines?
      And I hate to say it, but.................. technique, technique, technique.

        I had an isomac Zaffiro briefly with a hot wand that did produce micro foam but then upgraded to an isomac tea due. The story is apparently according to a couple of different web sites, that the tea due which comes with the cool touch wand has two holes that are too large. The web sites are saying that because the 4 holes are smaller that it quote "radically improves the milk steaming quality on all Expobar Minore and Isomac machines with Cooltouch steamwands". I was just mainly wondering if there was anyone out there who has this particular improved wand tip. My technique is pauls full cream milk and the boiler pressure is however it was when I got the machine. It is kind of around 1.2 bar. It starts a bit higher and ends at around 1 bar.

          Your boiler pressure is fine, the Mondiale was similar but had a much tighter range; only 0.5 bar. Your pressurestat shouldn't fall below 1.0 bar though.
          Rather than try a four hole tip, maybe first try a two hole tip with 0.9mm holes.
          This will also help with maintaining pressure while texturing milk and should work fine with smaller quantities used for one or two lattes.

            If those two other sites you're referring to are in the US......
            they seem to be very quick and eager to blame equipment for a lot of worries, especially when it comes to milk texturing.
            Pages and pages questioning which tip will work best. Technique hardly gets a mention.

              Short answer to your question - haven't tried one, would like to and have ordered one to try with my duetto. Will let you know how things go.

              Long answer ...
              I've recently bought an Alex Duetto and have been on quite a journey to get good milk from it, despite it being advertised as being "easy" to get perfect foam with. The duetto comes with a two hole tip - the holes are about 1.5mm diameter, maybe a bit more. My experience has been that it requires quite a bit of practice and attention to detail to achieve good foam. I currently run it with one hole blocked and although this slows things down a bit (not much mind you) ends up with great results using up to a 600mL jug.

              Conversations with several baristas and a pretty thorough search of the web suggests that some machines/configurations are easier than others. I took my machine to coffee shop owner/barista/roaster here and he reported it was pretty good but he really needed to be careful compared with the Cyncra in the shop. So no doubt you can make great foam with machine, but easy? So I decided to keep experimenting.

              My duetto (there are a few configurations with different heaters/PID configurations) using the two hole tip starts out with lots of steam but then the pressure drops considerably. This makes the first stage (incorporating air) very quick, but the second part (heating and rolling the foam with the tip submerged) slows down as the pressure drops. Blocking one hole keeps the overall pressure more constant and seems to make the second part easier.

              So, why try a 4 hole you say? Well, the two holes total hole area (which relates to flow rate and so steam pressure stabilty) is about 3.53 mm^2. The 0.9mm four hole is about 2.54 mm^2. I'll be interested to see if the four hole is a better match to my boiler/heater config.

                The BFC 2 hole tip fits the Alex and has 0.9 mm holes and works for small amounts of milk. I might be wrong but the Giove might fit as well.
                Persevering with the Alex will bring results, I found it had more to do with technique than any thing else. The position of the tip in the jug crucial,
                I place mine at an angle across the jug and against the side, stretch the milk up the side then change the angle of the jug slightly so the tip is off centre and roll the milk til done.
                I've blocked a hole, changed the tip and am now back with the original (hole size 1mm). There's a utube vid that might give you some help, where the angles look pretty radicalbut makes the point that thinking out of the box and trying radical things might bring results.
                I haven't used a 4 hole on an Alex.

                  I haven't used that particular machine or steam tip, but I have used a tip with the same hole configuration (a La Spaziale 4 x 0.9mm tip) on my Faema E98, and it works fantastically. Very easy to produce great microfoam, yet not excessively slow like most aftermarket tips are.

                    Thanks for the info - will keep it in mind. Didn't know about the BFC 2 hole, so something else to think about. I guess the point I was trying to make in response to the OP is that, in my experience, there are machines that are easier than others to get good foam. I seem to be in agreement with you - great foam is possible with the duetto, but it requires a particular technique and things like tip position is "crucial". Others have reported that the tip mentioned by the OP makes things much easier with the duetto, and although I can get good foam now, I think trying the new tip would be interesting.

                        I picked up the 4 hole steam tip from 5 senses, didn't really help much,
                        I had a two hole expobar one, but the holes are pretty big.

                        I get best results by blocked one of the holes in the two hole steam tip.

                        but I recently got a one hole steam tip, and that has really slowed the process down, but now the microfoam is a lot more consistent

                              Well I am excited. After feeling like I should just give up, I tried blocking one hole on the two hole tip and I have finally done it! I have not even been close to micro foam with the two hole or four hole tip after a couple of months of trying. The very first time I tried the one hole tip, instant success. For me it is the fact that one hole gets the milk rolling without other holes fighting against the roll. I thought to myself I have to put this on the forum. Thank you to Joyo for the info, you have made my day.
