orientation on a multi holed tip wouldnt make any difference
I dont understand the logic of this comment.

I have a 2 hole tip (multi ie not single).

I cant imagine that a 90 degree difference in orientation wouldnt make a difference.

Yep two hole orientation does make a very significant difference (assuming that the wand is closer to the wall in some direction...) Dead centre of the jug and perfectly perpendicular to the base - maybe not - but I dont texture milk that way.

But Ive found the orientation of four hole tips makes very little difference (Id even say none!) and of course single hole....

OK - your can get excellent microfoam on all settings.

The 6910 on standard settings gets about the same results as my old 6900.

The 6910 on +10 degrees temp and -.2 wetness (as suggested both others recently on another thread about 6910 v silvia) kicks the 6900 badly. It really rocks nicely. I have a Sunbeam Ristretto that has a really good size boiler and its better again that that. You have to work quickly and it now rocks.

          Cheers

Re: Frothing Milk with the EM6910

Blimey. I was getting good microfoam with the default settings on my 6910, there was plenty of time to slowly move the jug down and incorporate the odd large bubble. Just tried the settings suggested in here (+10 deg and -.2 wetness) and didnt the little beastie let fly! The milk was churning like crazy and it took less than a fifth of the time to get my milk up to temp, completely destroying my foaming technique (or lack of technique as it turn out)!

How on earth do the pros keep up with it? (Really, how do you guys keep up with the steam? Hints and tips would be appreciated).

It certainly gives me a new appreciation for the works of art that Cassie at First Pour produces, Im guessing the LM pumps out insane amounts of steam.(?)

ok - start with stainless jug from freezer and COLD milk..purge steam for a minute...turn off...put tip about an inch under milk surface...turn on...raise after about 2 -3 seconds to just under the surface until you see milk getting sucked in on the surface but not so its bubbling (that is bad)...hold it at an angle to get the vortex going and then lower jug slowly as milk stretches and gets higher in the jug....it starts off slow then goes fast (the stretch) and then slows down again near the point where you cant hold your palm on the bottom of the jug for more than 2-3 seconds....Cheers

I gotta try this upping the steam temp!!! I already have the pump at -0.2. The steam is so lethargic....hate it.

Never had an issue steaming thus far (except when I was 1st starting out and didnt have a clue). I achieve a good microfoam regularly now (after 2months of owning the 6910) which appears to be more related to the type of milk than the technique. Best quality foam thus far was with dairy farmers lite white. I still do ok with other brands of milk tho. As an experiment I changed the programmed temp of the steam yesterday (+5deg C)...I made soap bubbles...maybe it came at a higher pressure and I wasnt used to it but I changed it back straight away and things were fine. If it aint broke dont fix it I guess

It is broke...it doesnt steam fast enough....lol

No seriously...the above settings work a charm.

                      FWIW

I Just cleaned the tip of my steam wand and removed a small quantity of the caramelised milk that collects around the tip (I wipe and purge every time I steam but the tip is a shape thats hard to keep perfectly clean). I then steamed up some milk and found that this small quantity of caramel effects the ability to steam a good microfoam i.e steaming was a dream once it was remove.

Have others found that this makes a difference? I couldnt believe it!

                        Wushoes,

So what setting are you using on your machine to steam milk with?

Chris, I use -.01 (wet) on the pump and +10deg on temp... awesome performance...

                            Yeah ok, thanks marcstolk.
That is what I am using at the moment.

Seems to be working very well.

                            Cheers for that.

So If I change the settings on my EM6910 to this will my foam will reach the pinnacle of nanofoam?
