    Regarding the weird steam tip.

The site sponsor had this to say back in May of 2007

I have it on good authority that there will be an improved steam tip on the 6910 before too long... Providing it uses the same thread which I presume it would, thered be every chance you could get one from Sunbeam when theyve released it.

Can anyone throw more light on the release of a new steam tip for the EM6910??

I didnt like my steam when i first tried on my em6910, but i mucked around with the programming and now its awesome! the only thing i dont like is that weird tip, Im convinced it would be a lot more relaxed if it wasnt so flat and square on the bottom..

My trusty Moulinex Duomo Espresso coffee maker finally blew up after 12 years faithful service and no maintenance required - ever. For such a cheap crappy machine, it made me a wonderful latte every day.

I tried a Sunbeam EM3800 (loaned to me by a friend who never used it). What a lousy, cheap machine that turned out to be. Kept spraying coffee grinds and water out of the top of the head because the plastic holder it slotted into had worn.

So, off I went to David Jones and picked myself a nice, gleaming red EM6910R.

    Now were talking!

This machine produces a fine microfoam with standard Dairy Farmers Full Cream Milk.

Im still getting the hang of the grind on the EM0480 with it, but finding a grind setting of 5 gives a very nice result when tamped to the line of stainless steel tamper as described in the manual.

Had the machine a week now, so still practising!

But I do miss the Moulinex!

If you want more microfoam, stretch the milk more.

If you are getting to Temp and find that you havent had enough rolling phase then look at being a little more aggressive in the stretching phase (without going overboard) and roll the excess bubbles out.

You might want to look at using a little more milk for volume which may allow a bit more time for stretching and also using a tulip style cup.

    Good luck

I have difficulty of getting enough microfoam for my cappucino. I can only get 0.5 - 0.7 cm of microfoam in a cappucino cup. How can i get more microfoam? I think my technique is ok. I can get really gd microfoam for my latte. Should I use more milk? Cos I normally used the amount of milk which is just enough for 1 cup ( I dont want to waste milk). My setting is +10 temp and -0.1. What im aiming for is getting 1cm of mircofoam for my cappucino. I just use a normal cappucino cup. The cup in the picture is what im using at the moment.

    Thx~~~~~~

Yes I have noticed this too, crud builds up on the flat edge on the back of the steam tip even after wiping every time just because of its shape and that hard to get to edge (not very noticeable by looking at it, but surprisingly does make a difference.)

Also, crud builds up just inside the hole, even with proper purging, causing the steam jet to be thinner and agitates the milk too much (causing that loud slurping sound even with the wand well below the surface of the milk...)

With my first 6900, after a month or so it stopped producing proper foam and starting to taste a little strange, and then I read the manual and learned about the steam pin, the cleaning disc and backflushing soon after out with that black PF thingy and all was good again.

    FWIW

I Just cleaned the tip of my steam wand and removed a small quantity of the caramelised milk that collects around the tip (I wipe and purge every time I steam but the tip is a shape thats hard to keep perfectly clean). I then steamed up some milk and found that this small quantity of caramel effects the ability to steam a good microfoam i.e  steaming was a dream once it was remove.

Have others found that this makes a difference? I couldnt believe it!
Hey Saambo - yours is the best "tip" here! All else was failing me, however once I gave the tip the big clean... Voila! Microfoam was at last mine with this machine.

Just spoke with Vanessa at Epic and was I well excited about their course. They even have a 6910 out the back which they drag out to give the translation from the commercial to the home so that is great news (and Vanessa told me she has one at home as well).

It may cost a bit but it sounds like money well spent. Only wish I had managed to get over there before they closed so I could have had a coffee rather than talking on the phone.

You could try ringing sunbeam and saying that you never received the form.

Or better yet do the one at Epic. A lot more involved and you will learn heaps more there

Stew, although the sunbeam course is on sunbeam machines, I would still do the class as it is relevant to all machines.
    Agreed!

Stew, have the wetness set to "wet".. not "wetter".. and have the temp at +10deg..

have you done the sunbeam appreciate course?
Thats where I am set now and think I will leave it there for the time being (until every one I do is good).  I havent bothered with the Sunbeam course as I do envisage upgrading at some stage and want something that is general rather than machine specific.  It is easy to talk of upgrading when the 6910 came through the door for a favour to the Parents.

I will have to make time to get over to Epic (even if it just for a coffee), wish I worked in West Perth now rather than Burswood!
