    Re: latte art pouring problem

Heres one of my favourite pours. Its not that impressive, but the reason I like it is that its my first attempt at a rosetta on a piccolo.

This is my favourite flat white that I have poured.

    Re: latte art pouring problem

    Hi again

Nope I never sprinkle anything, I prefer clean cappas

I know that my latte art is far from amazing, but Im slowly gaining more experience and honing my skills. My new technique included flushing steam until the heating element turns on, closing the valve, waiting 15s and then steaming. This method produces steam with a bigger "kick", but I kind of prefer the steam I get when flushing the wand only for a couple of seconds. Its easier to inject air when the heating element is off and also better to swirl and mix the milk when the element kicks in (and it goes on in the middle of the steaming process).

Heres another one I did today:

One thing I did is to hold the cup a bit angled when pouring the milk in the first stage. This way I can pour into the deepest place and everything goes under the crema, until the moment when I start creating the leaves.

    Cheers,
    dsc.

I do the choc for a cappuccino because people expect the choc and I like that you can give them art and choc.

thats a great pic dsc. Whats your new technique?

I drank this today but didnt pour it -

fuzzy photo sorry, phone seems to always focus on the wrong thing. Notice the nice in focus pepper shaker in the background.

    Sharon,

I do the chocolate sprinkle thing every now and then.
I dont think of it as cheating, its just another technique that can give you some different results. As you say, it can be a dramatic change with a little sprinkle.

Do you ever spinkle chocolate powder on the crema before you pour the milk to get more dramatic art....or is this cheating? Your art seems pretty good btw....I liked the video too.

    Gday,

    Thanks DB

Heres a more decent one from today:

I was surprised I managed to do that one, because the coffee had almost no crema left when I started "painting".

    Gday everyone,

    thanks for the response

Today I tried CKs idea and...it worked yuuppii

I poured it with a thin stream, until I had enough milk in the cup, than lower the jug and kind of made a "force the milk in the cup" move, by bring the jug closer to the cup and pouring more milk in (in one move). Heres what I got:

Not the best there is, but my personal best, so Im happy.

    Cheers,
    dsc.

I pour more milk in before starting the rosetta and time it so I have just enough milk left to draw the stem.

I mean do what your doing right at the start to let the milk go in. Then lift it up. When your pulling for the stem your letting too much milk flow in so everything gets sucked in. For the stem just pull it back with a tiny stream of milk.

    Re: latte art pouring problem

    Gday CK,

Yup I will have to try it out. I remember using that technique some time ago, but it also generates some problems, because if I pour the first drop from a higher distance, it will definitely hit the bottom of the cup harder, thus swirling the milk even more. Nonetheless I will experiment with it

Heres a video, which shows my current technique. Maybe someone will have some suggestions on what to change:

I still think the lack of crema makes it even harder to paint.

    Cheers,
    dsc.
