I sold my Bellman(s) so cant check as a reference, but it definitely sounds like a failure to me. Try taking it apart, you’ll have to take it off anyway to replace it so you might as well have a look. If there’s a crack it’ll be obvious when you get it apart. Are you in the US? If so then Fantes is great for spares. If you’re in Australia then Di Bartoli have all the spares for these.

When I used my CX-25SS for the first time just the other day, the hissing of the of safety valve started in as expected. After a few minutes all of a sudden there was a large whoosh of pressure release, with a result of a weak steam action. All subsequent uses have yielded very weak steam pressure, even after waiting up to 15 minutes. Looking inside at the threads behind the lock nut, I noticed a crack, or space. Is this crack part of the design to allow for expansion/contraction, or did it just fail on me? A replacement on the FANTES website is around $11USD, so I’m not too worried if I need to replace it. I can always use my La Sorrentina Atomic as a steam toy as a stopgap, when I don’t need a mug of Atomic...

Such appears to be the case.Originally posted by LeroyC View PostWhat's the difference? I've only heard of the CX25S. Maybe the 50SS is just a different name for the same piece of equipment and could depend on where you are in the world.

If you do end up getting a Bellman steamer I highly recommend drilling out the steam wand tip. I'm assuming it's got the same tip as the CX25. When I had one I made this small modification and the result was greatly improved steaming performance. As it comes the tip has a very small hole, about 0.8mm. This causes it to be very slow to heat the milk, but you end up adding lots of froth. I drilled it out to 1mm and it was much better after this - faster to heat and easier to control to get good micro foam.

Bellman stovetop milk steamer [advice please]
Hi folks,
I'm currently using double mesh plunger-style milk frothers for my home coffee making, and would like to take my setup to the next level with a stovetop milk steamer.
The Bellman stovetop steamer seems to be the most popular brand, but I'm seeing two versions: CX25S and the 50SS, and nobody seems to know the difference. Would anyone on here be able to shed some light on the difference between these two?
Much appreciated,
DLF
EDIT: sorry folks, I tried a different search engine and found the answer.
