    Yep, Im afraid it sounds like the thermoblock is loosing its heating power......

    If the jug was cold then Id expect just a little water from condensation..... but 1cm.... the steam is far too wet..... must be just about hot water rather than steam.......

    And I doubt there is much you can do about it other than replacing the thermoblock.... which will probably be almost as expensive as a new machine....

      The jug wasnt cold, it had been heated. The machine had been heated up for ages too. I tried it over and over a few times with the same results. It explains why my milk is always over flowing lately, because the quantity is increasing with the water.
      looks like its back to *cough cough splutter splutter* instant coffee. How on earth am I going to go without a morning pick-me-up?
      Sheez now I am depressed. :-/

        Oh No LMC, dont do that ..... Grab yourself a Plunger from BigW or K-Mart and reset your grinder to suit. Ive been drinking Plunger coffee now for about 12 months and providing you follow the same rules as with espresso, i.e. freshly roasted high quality beans and only grind immediately prior to brewing, you will be very pleasantly surprised just how great a Plunger brew can be . Heres a link to a short explanation on how to get the best from a plunger brew....

          I have a plunger. And I have a stove top (which I never figured out how to use correctly). I have a little money set aside to buy a grinder, I dont have one at present and have been so unhappy with the preground gunk I have been settling for and the reduced availability and increasing prices. Maybe I should still buy the grinder. Thanks for the link, I never did take to the taste of plunger but must admit never put an effort into tweaking and researching it.

            Id certainly agree with Mal... a well made plunger coffee with freshly ground beans tastes great!!

            Yep, get yourself a good grinder and dust off the plunger and you will be impressed by just how good a plunger coffee can be.

              Absolutely LMC, theres no way you can extract the best flavour from the bean without at least a half decent grinder. Try to get the best one you can afford so that if sometime in the future youre able to replace the current espresso machine, you wont need to upgrade the grinder as well .

                Well I guess I have never enjoyed a single cup made from a plunger. I have never mastered the art. Same with the stove-top. At least with the machine I have made cups that I find satisfying, even when using preground. When I awoke this morning and pondered the thought of no cappuccino I started to sweat just thinking about it. I am sadly addicted to my morning coffee & milk drink so a plunger just wont cut the mustard. I need the milk. Its so filling and is great for a dieter as it takes me right thru to lunch without snacking and using skim is low in calories.

                So I put up with my watery gunk and yesterday morning discovered my DHs was fine and mine wasnt. I made my milk first, his second. So today I frothed an empty jug for about a minute and then frothed my milk and it was fine, no watery milk. I still have a problem obviously but I have an interim solution.

                I am looking at getting a combo deal on offer either the Breville IKON or the 800es with the burr grinder. I know I know but its about all I can afford and even that is being lavish. While I was researching I saw someone mention their Breville machine had a 2yr warranty, mine was purchased less than 2yr ago so I rang Breville to just ask but my machine has a 1yr warranty which is what I assumed anyway but worth the call to ask. The lady though wasnt leaving it there she wanted to know what was wrong and was quite helpful and offered a few suggestions. She said I could have a blockage and to descale before I went and bought another. I assume given I have lots of water coming thru the steam, this wouldnt be the case but she said it could so Im doing a descale according to the coffeeco web site directions (I admit I dont look after my machine and have never done one). Its all worth a shot. Im not sure how that could be causing wet steam but hey no harm in trying.

                Failing that I will kiss my Cafe Roma goodbye and buy another.

                  I regularly make milk drinks using the Plunger LMC.... Just needs a slightly different technique and the end results are pretty darn nice if the compliments I receive are anything to go by.

                  Basically, you just need to use slightly more coffee per cup in the plunger than for a normal brew. Ive found that 2½-3 tablespoons of ground coffee per milk-drink works out pretty reasonable and then use slightly less water per cup so that you end up with about 60-100ml of brew/cup. The resulting brew is then strong enough to "cut" through the milk. Its different to an espresso based drink but not worse in my opinion. Do a little experimenting to find out what works best for you and you will be very pleasantly surprised I believe,

                    I am still not sold. I am talking *frothed* nice thick glossy milk. I cant do that without a machine.

                    Since the descale the coffee tasted a heck of a lot better this morning. Milk still a little watery but will see how it goes tomorrow and beyond. Thing is I dont know if water has leaked all along so I dont want to get addicted to checking water levels in empty jugs as I have nothing to compare it to not knowing if its just normal for cheaper machines to release water like this.

                    I am just going to persevere for the next few days-week and see if the descale helps, if not will reassess then.

                      likemycoffee thats actually incorrect, with a little practice you can make latte art quality milk with the good old french press so have no fear!!!

                      grab a double burner for your stove (so a saucepan with water in it, and another saucepan to sit on top) heat the milk till its about 65c using this, its better to use a double saucepan setup so the milk doesnt stick to the pan, but it isnt essential if u stir it frequently, then all you have to do is pour the hot milk into your (clean) french press till its 1/2 or 3/4 full depending on what kind of coffee you want to make, then you just lift the handle all the way up, when you push the mesh filter back down into the milk it will push air with it, do this a few times then vigorously frother the milk (without lifting the mesh out of the milk) this will help texturise the milk

                      try it and you will probably end up (given you can make a decent 100ml extraction from the coffee using either your partially broken coffee machine, or the french press itself) with a better coffee than most cafes can produce!!! it hasnt got quite the body as espresso but it certainly isnt bad!

                              A lot of microwaves have a temperature probe that you can stab or immerse into what ever it is that you are cooking/heating up. You set the temperature you want on the front panel, immerse the probe, close the door and hit start. The oven stops automatically when the preset temperature is attained. Clever little beasties..... 8-)

                                For those who dont have a probe like Mal mentioned do a little experimenting. Use the same cup and amount of milk each time. A few runs should give you the proper power and time settings to use. Microwaves are very consistent so if you keep all the other variables consistent the same time/power settings can then be used from then on with good results.
