  • Grimac La Uno - Wet and sputtering steam!!

    Hi guyz!

I hope you can help me!
my stupid steam wand sputters thus causing water and steam to come out at the same time...
even if i purge the wand for more than a minute.. the same thing happens throughout the steaming process.
Theres just too much water in my milk and its awful!

    Checklist
    - Whirlpool
    - Microfoam
    - 1.5 bars pressure in boiler
    - valve opened to max..
    - tried with 120 mls and 300mls

Just got it serviced a month ago by grinders coffee... they changed a seal for the wand as it was leaking ...
Theres just 1 steam tip hole... is that the reason why it sputters and spit?
The hole is approx 1 mm in size and the wand is tiny.. The steam tip has a male fitting with an inner diameter of 5mm.. that is 1 mm bigger than a silvias.. Ridiculous..
takes me almost a minute to heat up 300mls of milk... something is definitely wrong!

I wanted to ask grinders to swap the steam wand with a grimac mia steam wand.. but the techies there are too busy.
I can only deal with the receptionist...
Was also thinking of ordering the parts from US and changing it myself..

Any help with be very much appreciated!!

p/s: you can explain using enthropy and enthalpy and dryness fraction and that sort of crap... thanks!

    Desperately needs coffee,

    hi jerome

sounds like the boiler is overfilling with water

the la uno is a hx machine with a 1.4 lt boiler with plenty of steaming capacity

sounds like you need a new repairer, not a new steam arm

what area do you live in
hopefully we can guide you to another repairer

        jerome

pull a cup of hot water from the water valve
let machine settle then try steaming
the boiler may be overfilled and this might fix the problem
        if problem persists,
chris at talk coffee should be able to assist

Re: Grimac La Uno - Wet and sputtering steam!!

          Hey graham!

Yes it worked! But only after i removed 300- 400 mls of water in the boiler!!
it still takes quite a long time to steam milk though... i will contact chris if there are more problems!
Thank you so so much graham!

          Cheers,
          Jerome
