  • Thank you Messrs Rudd and Swan

Well if you are thinking about buying a coffee machine or grinder under $1000, you might want to hold off for a month.

Read this, and note that they want you to spend it as its good for jobs and the economy.
If you are morally or ideologically opposed to this, give it to me and Ill spend on your behalf

Being ideologically opposed myself, I feel the best protest we can make is not to spend, but rather save/invest the money, or at least use it to reduce debt.

      Take that Rudd!

(For what its worth I have never voted Liberal - fence sitters unite!)

Yep, just fantastic...why dont they just cut taxes to income and employers payroll tax? Surely that would be a help to everyone and stimulate the economy? But then, what would I know, Im no economist...

Why is it during my life time, I have just failed to qualify for any government handouts. I bought a house just prior to the first home buyers grant, I got a raise just as my first child was born and as my wife also worked we were not eligible for child endowment (as it was known then). etc etc. Now they are giving away more money and I fail to qualify for that due to the fact I have worked hard and studied and bettered my position in life.

But I still have the honour of paying more tax so they can hand out this money.

Whilst I do not object to people in need getting assistance (to buy better espresso machines) :, I think they could find a better way of making sure it goes where it is suppose to. Not to the Publican or the pokies. [smiley=angry.gif]

I dont qualify either & my income tax so far this financial year has paid for around 35 lucky souls to receive theirs.  > Wonder if I could claim it as a tax deduction - donation to charity.

Think Ill go and have another coffee.

Yes, is it true you need to have earned more than 11K in the last tax return?

Im at med school...full-time hospital rotations in the daytime, classes/assignments/study at night-time, work on weekends to pay the bills (no Austudy)...but only just enough to pay the bills cause I need to study (and make coffee and read coffesnobs!)...so no bonus for me >.

And if I had my way, it would all go to hospitals (and a few other community resources). If only the public knew how bad hospitals REALLY are...they think hospitals are in a bad way, but they dont seem to understand the true extent of it! Anyway, thats just my ideal world...if I were receiving it, I would probably spend it on coffee!

I think that there would have been better ways to stimulate the economy and I think Australia will be paying for this handout for a long time down the line. But seeing Kev has decided on this action I will oblige him and spend the money on a new coffee grinder, something that I will have to use in the harder times ahead!!

I would prefer to see all that money go towards building something that generates jobs and trade.
But I also see the massive tax revenue received over time from handouts.
Imagine the movement of a $1 coin today.
You earnt it, di bella paid payroll tax on it, the ato took a % of it, you bought a newspaper with it, newsagency pays staff and publisher some of it, staff at newsagent buys a coffee, cafe pays tax etc etc and so on.
The governments cash flow increases overtime with handouts.
