  • Coffee Snobbers Retreat..... all things coffee

    attention all ..... especially ANDY.....

I think Coffee Snobs could organise a coffee retreat away to get those interested to meet face to face and talk and do all things coffee....

Similair to a school camp where we go away and activities are organised all around coffee.... eg.. home machine jams, roasting jams, cupping, tastings, etc... along with some other activities such as bushwalking, soccer, etc...

other things could be to organise some speakers, demos etc ... the sky is the limit and i would personally put my hand up to contribute in some way, shape or form......or as a sponsor..... i am sure some of the other site sponsors could tip in as well....

Obviously there would be a cost involved.... and perhaps some of this could go to support faircrack....

would love to seek thoughts on this... i know i would love to get away and meet some of the coffee snobs..... good excuse to do it...and very productive

Awesome idea, I would vote for it being in Wagga ;D (self interest of course) but being half way between Melb and Syd (only 4-5 hrs drive) you could get more people to attend.

I would travel a fair way to attend if this selfish idea doesnt fly.

Im hoping to go to NZ this year too, so Ill vote NZ... ;D

Though, what I think youd really be looking for is a conference/camp site that has a big enough kitchen facility that wed be able to have access to. Along with a good dining room with plenty of power points!

And you can forget about bushwalking :...I think that thered be a few Snobs on motorcycles, I know of two at least! So wed better find a spot near a nice bit of windy road instead...

I know a nice little place just like what you are suggesting in the snowy mountains, just out of tumbarrumba used to be a prison camp or something like that. Plus plenty of windy roads for riders.

i think we should see how much interest is placed with this idea and then we can perhaps persuade Andy to do it through coffee snobs... with all our help of course.... if we all put in a little help then it will become easier to organise.........

Hope this doesnt sound too negative, but it might be very difficult for a fair number to get away at the same time. Many of us have businesses and/or families.

I would certainly be down for a coffeesnob smackdown, perhaps one in each capital city. It could be timed to coincide with the beanbay pickup. Ideally a very giving site sponsor in each city would be willing to open their doors to a bunch of coffee maniacs assembling en masse

Oh ya... Fresh coffee and Trout cooked in mud...  I am all for it..  I guess for night time fun... a few local woollies could be invited....

Better still, a week on Morton island... Coffee, bush walking,  4 X 4 sand driving and Beach fishing...  I bet with a little coffee cart, we could even make it pay...

Ok, so in the space of a few short posts we have gone from organising one event to organising 7 or 8 in capital cities?

I do like the idea of a retreat but have way too much on my plate at the moment to seriously contemplate a large scale event.  Not to say that we shouldnt plan for something more official down the track though.

For the moment we have a couple of events on the boil.  In less than 2 weeks we have Wicked Sunday which will act as good chance for a lot of CS’rs to get together, roast some coffee and have a great day in the park.  Good and social and a pile of fun showing the public the process of green to brown and I hope plenty of CS’rs come out to play for the day.

May sees CafeBiz at Randwick where I plan on taking the Snob van on a road trip to Sydney.  We will setup a marquee out the front of CafeBiz and and do similar to Wicked Sunday in Melbourne.  Lots of roasting and plenty of healthy coffee discussion all under the back-drop of Australia’s largest coffee industry / cafe trade show.  Last year was great, this year should be even better with us making a pile of smoke and chaff out the front.  CafeBiz is on Sunday 3rd May (public day) and Monday the 4th of May (trade day).

Maybe we can get some of the Sydney Site Sponsors to open their doors on Saturday 2nd to CS’rs for a sponsor crawl or similar?  It might be a good chance to play with lots of machines and gear in a short time.   Of course, lots of our sponsors will have displays at CafeBiz so they might be too busy setting-up that day.

Or maybe we can organise something else on the Saturday ending with a CoffeeSnob dinner somewhere Saturday night?

I think initially that tacking a Snob day onto an existing event is far more feasible than creating a whole new event. Suitable starting events could be wicked Sunday, CafeBiz, the next Aroma Fest or even the Gold Coast coffee fest.
