well they used it in vending machines where you call a number and get charged 55c plus the cost of the coke on your mobile phone bill. hasnt taken off to be mainstream, but you still see them around the place.
Not sure if this is the same company as mHITs doesnt require you to make a call to charge your account...only send an SMS and it doesnt charge the user anything to make the transaction. Not a bad idea, especially considering that banks are charging more and more for ATM transactions and, to me anyway, seems to add a lot of convenience.

Also, did anyone else catch the hour long "History of Coffee" on Radio national last night? (Like all of the other coffee drinkers, I was up at 1 am!) Didnt realise that the long black and flat white were invented in Australia.

The link to the show is at http://www.abc.net.au/rn/rearvision/stories/2009/2514108.htm
    a very interesting show

Started an account with mHITs yesterday and recommended the service to a couple of mates too... resulting in account being credited with $30 total. Been electronically transferring money between ourselves but waiting to actually use the account at a cafe when I next go to Sydney...

Let me know if I can recommend you so that I can get more money! jk!

Fair point Thundergod but it looks like the system is also good for paying mates and stuff other then coffee as well.
I saw something like this before.
Not sure if its the same one but the mobile to mobile bit rings a bell.
Sort of like PayPal but with mobiles instead of email addresses.

I might consider trying once all the typos disappear from the website.
Then I know theyve really paid attention to detail.
Also therell need to be somewhere I buy from; at the moment theres not.

Just found their website... Web link removed by Mods

Interestingly, they are offering $5 credit just for trying the service and what appears to be another $5 credit for introducing friends. Might give it a go and let you know what I think.

A prepaid card (made of cardboard) would work as good.

Hey also, did anybody else participate in that Great Chase in Sydney last weekend?

I cant see a dedicated line working.

As long as it works and doesnt cost too much it should help the customer (no need to carry cash and you could have a dedicated line for the prepaid customers) and the owner (as soon as the system is ironed out in the business you should be able to increase productivity).

    mHITs Sydney cafe launch

    Goodmorning fellow coffee drinkers,

I was in Sydney two weeks ago and stumbled across a cafe launching "mHITs", a system for paying for coffee using a sms from your mobile phone. Just wondering if anyone here has tried their service and what you though about it?

Seems like a convenient service, especially since you can SMS the order ahead of time so that the coffee is ready when you arrive at the cafe for pickup, but still not entirely sure...

    Any thoughts?

Working...
