    Forgetter Be Forgotten

    My forgetters getting better,
    But my rememberer is broke
To you that may seem funny
But, to me, that is no joke

For when Im here Im wondering
If I really should be there
And, when I try to think it through,
    I havent got a prayer!

Oft times I walk into a room,
Say what am I here for?
I wrack my brain, but all in vain!
    A zero, is my score.

At times I put something away
Where it is safe, but, Gee!
The person it is safest from
    Is, generally, me!

When shopping I may see someone,
Say Hi and have a chat,
Then, when the person walks away
I ask myself, who was that?

    Yes, my forgetters getting better
    While my rememberer is broke,
And its driving me plumb crazy
    And that isnt any joke.

    ******************

My son found this on a page some where (Google is a friend) and printed it out for our place..

They tell me that IT IS ME to a TEE 8-)

But then I do have an excuse.... I am getting OLD; Now be it fact or fiction... I use it all teh time, but it never gets me off the hook.

And when I call my wife by another name... It does not matter.. Its no longer a laughing matter in her eyes.. :-[ :-[ :-[

The solution there is to get a girlfriend with the same name as your wife.

        LOL... ;D

That poem pretty well describes my daily life. It used to drive me (and my lovely lady) crazy but now I just go with the flow...

Well... It may be funny to some, but it is a real issue for others.. My biggest failing is with peoples names.. I call people that I have worked with for 15years by the wrong Name.. Some just accept it as me and take no offence.. A couple dont bother to correct and just answer to what ever I call them.. 8-)

Some people do take offence... And in some meeting with New Contractors etc I have to be upfront, acknowledge the dyslexia and explain to one and all that I will forget their names..

I guess to me... Some names are fine and that person looks like a John or a Geoff etc. While with others the Name and person do not go together... :-[

I do not forget a Name... Just who it belongs to :

KK is Koffee Kosmo is Paul... But Paul does not sit with me... He is KK and I hope like Mad he accepts that.

Just do what I do, just say "Gday...... mate". "Excuse me sir!". "Hey dude".

I forget names all the time. Its a language thing. I mainly think in objects, colours, pictures, even colours before words.
This morning I was staring at the computer monitor thinking how do you spell "soft"!!!! My mind had a picture in it but no word. I could even "feel" soft in my head!?! Sounds stupid, I know. Took a minute before it came to me.
Same happens with people. I have an image, a body language, a smell, a personality, history and then the name may come to mind.

But as I get older I have something to blame! ;D

I annoyed a new team member a while back by telling him that I knew too many Davids so I was going to call him Peter instead. ;D

The confused look on his face was priceless.

I have a large vocabulary and a head FULL of facts/trivia; but as Im getting older I find that I have more incidents like bassway, a "blank" where a word used to just be there.

Well... It may be funny to some, but it is a real issue for others
Wasnt trying to be funny AM... After several strokes, open heart surgery and a few other things, Ive lost about a third of my brain volume and have all but lost a useful short term memory. Its improved over time but is still pretty lousy. Im always arriving somewhere, wondering how I got there, where I was before and why did I come here. Now, if you start talking about where Ive put something and I havent told my Lovely Lady where it is... Its gone forever unless I happen to bump into it one day; usually followed by "There it is! I wondered where that got to?"...

The funniest thing though, is that I never, ever forget a face but to pick out that same face, even my wifes, from within a crowd of people is absolutely impossible for me. I just cant do it. When you consider I have arrived at this point in life from a background of managing multimillion dollar capital and maintenance budgets for some of the largest Industrial and Mining companies in the world, it took a bit of getting used to.

Theres no other way around it these days unless I look for the funny side of things, meaning no disrespect for anyone else who may have problems of their own. Im just here for the coffee

                  Mal.

Was in no way intending to be disrespectful...  I was trying to cover my Ass as many laugh at what is on our plate...

My daughter red it to night and just cracked up big time...  Jumping around and Shouting this is Dad to a tee, but I know he did not writ it !!!!  ( Speeling police... Bait there).

I guess I was trying to show compassion and to have people recognise that some of us cope with different methods and if some really understood... They would just shake their head and wonder HOW...

My dad is a 100% bushy and has never had a sick day or could afford to... Broken ribs etc from horses and cattle, gunshot wounds, sandy blite etc etc   Was 4 hrs from death last week, and on getting him home Last friday... He looked at me and said..

Never thought I would see the place again..  Dry and not even a glimer in his eye..  For me I almost missed teh corner..

I then said, if he was not coming home, I was going to put one of his hand crafted miniature Aus Stock Saddles  in a glass box and place it on teh new Coffee machine I was going to buy with any money I found burried..  Old timers always bury it, some where

We both had a laugh.. And he said, in a very serious tone (while looking straight ahead) I guess I had better tell you where its hid....

As you said.. Humour has to play a part...

So Mal... Hang in there and Dont let any of the Bastards grind ya down... Just give some one a clue as to where yours is Hid

Its an old cliche but true "laughter is the best medicine" no matter what situation you are in.

The station Names rings a few bells... I was born on a veranda at the St George Hospital.. Have a book here with the history of the place...

In the old days they always gave the Dr the wrong dates as they could not afford to come to town before hand.. My mum got dropped off in town as dad was off bush... After fixing some accounts she got a dray ?? or some other horse drawn carriage to get to Hospital..

The driver made her walk, as she was so close to drooping me; he was frightened she would break her water and mess his seat..... But he stayed with her and took her bags 8-)

Needless to say the old station house / hospital and one veranda for Blokes and one for Shelias.

Any way...have to head off an see him in the morning so might ask a question or two...
