  • Choice/Current Affair pap...

Anybody see the advertorial for Choice and Hardly Normal tonight?

Just goes to prove that Choice should stick to toasters and Hardly should sell beds and computers.....

Funniest thing was the two coffee addicts and what they thought was good...

I predict a wave of CS newbies hoping to get some assistance and somthing drinkable out of their newly aquired boat anchors....:

No no it was a highly scientific test ;D, it is amazing how much bling is on machines now. It is good to see that they were pushing more manual machines than the super autos.

Still the best thing I have seen on ACA for years. ;D

Hardly Norman should stick to toasters, beds and leave computers well alone.

If they pushed the more manual machines then there must be a bigger margin in the sale or more chance of sales in that price point.

yeah I saw it. Pretty funny that they were drooling over the gushers that came out of the machines. Im quite embarrassed for them.

          Poor bastards...

Cant tell the difference between the "real thing" and that swill they thought was espresso. Oh wait a minute, this was Choice and ACA, all makes sense now : :P

            For those who missed it...

You can read about it all here and provide comment / feedback  http://aca.ninemsn.com.au/Blog.aspx?mode=preview&blogentryid=415866&showcomm ents=true

I guess CS will get to see a new wave of members, looking for advice or singing the praises of HN...

And even watch the whole show for prosperity...

Any idea what type of machine is pictured near the bottom for the test espresso they have pullled?
Unless i am really off the mark, that isnt going to be in any of the price ranged machines they have written about.

They got a few tips right but disappointed they didnt talk about the importance of freshly roasted & ground coffee of good quality. Most people ive spoken to off the street havent got a clue that coffee generally tends to degrade after a week or so of roasting.

I loved the coffee tasting experts - of course the barista will make the machine look good on tele.
HA - choice picked it - must be good!!
I`ve seen TV reviews in Choice claim one TV is better than another because it has anohter HDMI input or the remote looked better, not based on performance or pic quality.
I sell all those coffee machines at work and the the price point most people want is around the $300 mark, and no one really wants to but the EM0450/0480 with it. The Nespresso and automatic machines in the last month have been the biggest movers. The Breville Cafe Series is also moving slowly. But the $200 mark is where they walk out the door.

They really, and consistently continue to have no idea...

I reckon that we could collectively produce a mag bigger and way better  than Choice about what they dont know about coffee.

For mine, their work is best nailed to the back of the dunny door for use in times of emergency :

                      Re: Choice/Current Affair pap...

The only good thing that can be said about that report - for the retailers on this site, including those retailing green or brown beans is that it will probably prompt quite a few people (they do these articles from time to time over the years) to go and get a machine. From there a proportion will look to do better with the machine and consider a grinder and fresh coffee...

From there a smaller proportion will go on to get onto sites like this one and start getting upgraditis and even a passion for home roasting.....

Lets face it the little Ristretto for $99 is now worse than the $300-400 machines they are flogging....interestingly they dont even mention the em6910 which (apart from the Silvia) is one of the most serious of the home machines but a fair margin (nor do they mention the Gaggia Classic...). They dont talk about the difference between crema enhancers and commercial style baskets...but as I say it will prompt people and from there good things will come.

                      Cheers

                        Re: Choice/Current Affair pap...

Good point, and the more people learn, the more theyll come to recognise all the terrible coffee being poured in cafes and restaurants. At the end of the day it largely comes down to the baristas knowledge/skill or lack thereof.

Case in point, yesterday i had the most awful over-extracted coffee at Cartel here in Brisbane. Usually they are quite good, they use campos superior blend. But this barista clearly had no idea what she was doing. I should have returned it, it was that bad.

I noticed the Choice spokesperson, Elise, saying eXpresso as well.
All credibility then went out the door.

Daniel Levitas, the barista - googling brings up no hits.
                              Need I say more?

The last pic in the article was not of an appliance but a real machine.

ACA used to do hard hitting stories.
In the days of Mike Willisee or even Mike Munro in the street, it would have been:

"Public Scammed by Harvey Norman and Myer!!! Passing off appliances as coffee machines!!! Choice implicated as accomplice."
