  • OK Techno geeks...tell me about ipods

    Dont know much about technology...

I want an ipod or equivalent that I can load music and movies on and then plug little screens into it so the kids can watch movies in the car.

Does this technology exist and if so what do I need to get?

    Thanks

    Luwaks

yeah, thought of it. Just trying to be lazy/stingy and kill all birds with one stone...seeing as we cant really listen to music at the same time as the kids are watching a movie anyway.

I agree with KK, go for a portable DVD player independently of the MP3 player
We won a raffle of a portable DVD player and have the kids use headphones but because only one screen you get fights about where it should sit and who has control. For ultimate sanity get them one each and a set of headphones each. Or alternatively as i do, tell them to put up with it, make a decision or it goes out the window at high speed ;D

We tell him to use head phones in the car so we can still listen to our music

I have found a possible solution
A portable DVD player with I Pod dock

            Found a few on offer
This one has all the mod cons such as a remote control, swinging axis screen

Re: OK Techno geeks...tell me about ipods

Ipods are a bit small (in storage) to be truly useful for movies of any decent resolution.

Id go for a in-car DVD for the kids and an ipod for the music. My ipod (and iphone) plays through the car stereo and if I had kids (they are both in their 40s now!!!) they would use headphones for the movies.

BTW--watch out--watching DVDs in a moving car can cause motion sickness!

                        No cant help on that
But the brand is owned by Hills an Australian company

But I still think that a separate DVD player is better

Others are available with USB Ports or TV tuners

Have an Iphone from work and have had so many people with issues with ipods... DONt fall for the HYPE..

Ipod / Iphone = Itunes and lack of customisation unless you then jailbreak or hack teh system..... Plenty of other systems at less $$$ that will do the same job..

As a parent of teenagers...this is what we would do if our kids were still little...I would opt for the dvd player option 1 screen/unit per kid...these can be bought for around $100 each and then get the kiddies to use headphones or even those littler earbud thingys... keep the car stereo for yourself but upgrade it to one that accepts aux input so you can plug your own ipod or similar into it...My hubby has a Zen music player and I have the ipod...the zen and others like it eg: the Iriver are much more versatile than the ipod and their screens are often bigger too if you want to watch video on a teeny tiny screen! with an ipod you are stuck with using itunes which is a painful program that doesnt always want to work how you want it too... >...The Iriver is much cheaper these days and an excellent alternative and the screen is larger.

In my opinion, could hold out for a Zune HD. Then you can watch movies in 720p fashion. High resolution goodness for the kids.

Thats what my inner child would have wanted at 7. Pokemon @ high res on the way to school.
