Just to take a different approach:

Studies of this type tend to be contradicted by new studies and so on

Conventional wisdom says coffee is a problem for heart arrhythmia, but it would be nice to think it wasnt.
Very interesting read. Thanks for sharing, Rusty.

I had started getting palpitations and even chest pains before. I stopped drinking coffee after a while. Then I needed to drink coffee again because its the only way I could deal with my workload at the office. But when I got back to my coffee habit, I am thankful that the palpitations didnt return. Its been over two years since.

Do it for sure KK. I know the beans I get are processed in mexico (hence the name) but Im not actually sure if they are grown in mexico or not? Either way they taste bloody great. If the colombian ones are not all that great then try get your hands on some of these or drop me a line and I might be able to organize some for you. Either way, enjoy

Yeah couldnt agree more WSully, its best straight out of the roaster and after about 5 days its best in the bin. Ive been put onto a new decaff by a guy who roasts commercially and its by far the best Ive had (big ups Mark). Mexican mountain water processed is what its called and it really is pretty good. I gave it to some friends who came over for a coffee the other day and they didnt even know it was decaff until I told them it was. It still doesnt taste as good black or as a straight espresso as real coffee does but its better than anything else Ive tried.
    Interesting
I have been meaning to roast some Decaf but havent done so thus far

I went in to order a set of grinder burrs at Barazi
and noticed that they have some Colombian Mountain Water Decaf greens

Now I am tempted to give them a go

I have, generally speaking 1 caff and 1 Decaf a day from my home setup, a couple of months ago i had a splitting headache, didnt put 2 and 2 together, drank tonnes of water etc etc with no luck, then had a coffee......whallarr, headache gone, experimented a bit over the next few weeks.......no coffee equalled headache, so i weened myself down to one cup a day of caff and a decaf at night, all good now if i miss my morn cup o joe!

PS: Decaf rocks, for so many reasons, here are the biggest two for me,

    1. you can roast it, cool it, grind it, pour it, and drink, all in under 30 mins!

2.It tastes amazing straight from the roaster, no real degas time, my experience has shown that they peak at about the 1 hour mark and get worse from there, perfect if you run out of fresh roasted and have unexpected guests!, like last night for me!

    Just my 2c...

YES Australian coffee is lower in caffeine due to less natural pests. As you may know, caffeine is the coffee plants natural pestacide. So less natural pests = less natural pestacide.

ALTERNATIVE: A Brazilian company by the name of Detera have recently started selling a low caffeine single origin bean. Sorry i cant remember the bean code but it is now for retail sale and contains roughly half the caffeine than there normal beans.
The plus with this bean is it has not been through science that this been now exists but through cross breeding of different strains...totally natural and no chemical or swiss water processes to take away any natural flavors the bean has...just pure coffee with half the caffeine!

Mike, I think you are right about the stress/anxiety reaction being amplified by caffein. I had a prolonged stressful time at work some years ago and I eventually realised that the caffein was exacerbating the usual stress symptoms. I actually gave up coffee for a couple of years and drank camomille tea instead. (Its so good to be back on the coffee!)

( Does anyone else find that decaff is better straight out of the roaster and it doesnt last for roasted for more than four or five days?)
    Hi there
Not aware of this, i regularly roast decaff for work and as long as its bagged and sealed correctly then it is fine after 14 days. Our only issue is that someone dumps the whole 500gm bag into the hopper sometimes.

Interesting reading guys. I now drink or consume all caffeinated products in moderation. I used to drink coke by itself... now its only with bourbon  ;D and I rarely drink it anyway so I can get away with a small amount of that. I think that stress levels may play a part in it too, not that Im a highly strung person, actually quite the opposite, but when it first started I was about to move house and selling a car etc. As previously mentioned I have found a few decaff coffees that are actually quite nice and thanks to you guys I have added another one, WOW decaff. I ordered some the other day and it arrived yesterday so it went into the roaster today and I just tried a cup and it is pretty good! Roasting needs to be perfected but otherwise Im quite happy. ( Does anyone else find that decaff is better straight out of the roaster and it doesnt last for roasted for more than four or five days?) I am happy to drink decaff through the week and then on the weekend I can have a few cups of real stuff and Im usually ok . I have been experimenting with the RISTRETTO pour the past few days and it really is tastier! (thank you Greg and AM) Ill be hitting a few up on the weekend no doubt.
Cheers People for all your feedback, its interesting reading about your experiences and experimenting with your suggestions to see if it works for me or not. And it is nice to know Im not the only one who has to cut back on the liquid gold.

Being a sufferer of Acidosis and its symptoms, Ive found this article to be very helpful:

If I have foods that promote alkalinity with my coffee (before being preferable as I want to have that lingering coffee taste) .. my symptoms are very much reduced.

    .....
edit .. another reason to consume Watermelon:

Watermelon Found to Function as Natural Viagra
    by David Gutierrez

(NaturalNews) New research suggests that watermelon may produce effects in the body similar to that of Viagra, perhaps pointing the way to a natural remedy for men suffering from erectile dysfunction, says Bhimu Patil of Texas A&M University.

Research conducted by Patil and others has recently revealed that the flesh of watermelon contains higher levels of the amino acid citrulline than researchers had thought. Until then, most of the citrulline was believed to reside in the inedible rind of the fruit.

"We have known that watermelon has citrulline," Patil said, "[but] watermelon has more citrulline in the edible part than previously believed."

This is significant because the body converts citrulline into arginine, another amino acid that functions as a precursor to nitric oxide. Nitric oxide, in turn, plays a critical role in the dilation of blood vessels and the process of penile erection.

The drug Viagra functions primarily by targeting the nitric oxide signaling pathway in the penis.

Patil hopes that other researchers will begin to directly study watermelons effects on erection. But some are skeptical.

Just because nitric oxide is required for an erection, "that doesnt mean eating something that is rich in citrulline will make enough arginine that it will lead to better penile erections," said Irwin Goldstein, editor-in-chief of The Journal of Sexual Medicine and a former consultant for companies that make erectile dysfunction drugs.

"The vast majority of Americans produce enough arginine," he said. "Men with erectile dysfunction are not deficient in arginine."

Patil acknowledges that he doesnt know how much watermelon a man would need to eat to have an effect. Knowing that a four-ounce serving of watermelon contains approximately 150 milligrams of citrulline does not tell researchers what effects that much citrulline will have in the body, he said.

He did note that in a 2007 study, participants were able to increase their arginine levels 11 percent in three weeks by drinking three eight-ounce glasses of watermelon juice per day.

    Fred.
Find myself in the same boat from time to time depending on level of over indulgence. I was monitored as well, but in my case the palpitations were in fact muscle spasms darting across the chest in reaction to very high acidity levels / heartburn, etc.

Diet, sleep, stress, newborn(s), 8 dbl shots a day, all mixed together did it for me. Hopefully, its the same thing for you, if it is....easy peazy...I now keep the coffee down to around 3 a day and when things flare up again, I use over the counter tabs for a week or two....then Im back in the game!

    Good luck
