Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
Excellent. Would recommend. Performance is great. The bells and whistles are nice and generally the useability is well thought out.
Learnt about the aero shake feature just today. Take a look
Not sure how useful that is but now that I know its there it might come in handy.

Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
I have it. I just received my custom built laptop today with Win7 ultimate installed. Before that, my other laptop has XP installed. I never used Vista before. Theres a learning curve but I think its a cracking OS. I love the aero features. The speed is heaps better than XP I think. Now to load the MSDN RTM version on my old laptop.

Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
I dont think you will be dissapointed at all.
I have been running Win7 on a laptop and netbook for about 6 weeks or so now it its all been good.
The laptop was an in place upgrade from Vista and the machine now works faster than before, i have only had 1 application that doesnt work anymore.

Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
Ive been running it in my study as 64 bit for three months, and on the HTPC for a week now. Very happy with both, the new media centre features are a big leap.
Maheel, it is intended to replace vista but of course vista will remain on lots of computers.

Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
Same here, running the 64-bit version on the main home PC, great OS, faster smoother and lighter than vista, but with more features, doesnt sit on 1 Gb mem usage idle like VISTA!, the only problem ive experienced was the 64-bit IE, bit buggy and had a few "thinking" moments, other than that...........its a massive improvement on VISTA
cheers

Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
Its a good step up, and withoit doubt the best Windows yet. Nice interface and pretty good performance. Ive been running the RC version for several months now with no major issues.
Still running Vista on my workstation and Im not decided about upgrading yet as I found Vista is fine provided it is fed with plenty of RAM and up-to-date drivers. The HTPCs are slated for an upgrade to 7 as Im tired of having to use hacks to use DVB-S.
I did find that Win7 still needs RAM - Id recommend 2GB. It still has a heavier memory requirement than XP.

Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
Just installed it today on a work computer with only 1GB RAM and the performance is very good. I dont agree that the extra RAM is needed if you upgrade to Win 7 but it wont hurt.
The claim that Win 7 is what Win Vista should have been is very close to the mark. Only minor gripe is that it doesnt have a native email client (which doesnt affect me) and its using IE8 (but Im a FF user). But early days yet so well see.

Am running an AMD AM3 X2 550 3.1GHZ (black) + 4GB RAM and a Gigabit MOB..Originally posted by 4441564548200 link=1256816770/8#8 date=1256865777Its a good step up, and withoit doubt the best Windows yet. Problem is getting my other apps and all my data off the dead PC and onto this one..
As I can access the HDs it will just be a matter of moving data and re installing one at a time... Been many years since doing a full install as I have just repaired and upgraded from NT4... Thus lots of crap....
It will take some time and the biggest issue is the management of passwords and links etc etc.

Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
I have WinXP Pro SP3, Vista Ultimate SP2 and the Win7 RC download version.
To be quite honest, I cant see any practical operational or performance advantages between the latter two. Im quite happy with my Vista Ult SP2 and given what M$ are asking for an upgrade to Win7 Ultimate, Ill stick with what Ive got for now. Given how close the two currencies are these days, it seems to be a horrendous mark-up that we Aussies are being expected to pay... >

Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?
Windows 7, even with the latest service pack for Vista, is still superior.
To the average user, they wont notice any difference; however, its the same argument as a properly brewed espresso vs. nescafe 43. They arent factually different beasts, but Windows 7 is running on a more efficient and improved engine; API.
XP is still a competitor as far as speed is concerned, but when you bring in security, 64-bit and future support as a variable to consider, then it becomes clear to many enthusiasts.
Windows 7 is here to change the face of the industry that 80-90% of the market that utilises Microsoft Windows and products. To not move forward with the industry in this case.. is a disservice to yourself, if youre in an occupation/field that requires you to be on the forefront of the industry in concern.
I say this, as a game enthusiast, performance enthusiast, and just straight up super geek.
