I installed WIndows 7 on a 6-year old computer running on 1GB of RAM. It worked quite well. Initially had to install the Win XP driver for the built-in LAN card to get a net connection but once that was established, all good. Detected and installed a Netgear wi-fi adapter and it works better than under XP.
The onlyglitch is that it didnt detect my graphics card so running on a standard driver but the good news is that the driver supports a max resolution of 1024 x 768 instead of the usual 640 x 480 that MS has in its std graphics drivers.
Speed is very good for a machine this old.
