    Windows 7 and  Vista

Ever wanted extra access.. Just like old games..

    God mode.

As indicated by enthusiasts around the Web, there is a simple way to access a hidden "God Mode" in Windows 7 and Vista. With a name like that, your expectations might be a little high -- and no, Windows is not secretly invincible -- but the trick is awesome nevertheless.
"God Mode" simply provides users with a centralized Control Panel for all of Windows settings, from changing your desktop background to setting up a VPN or partitioning your hard drive. In all, there are nearly 50 categories and most have several entries.

Read all about it on this link... I will be doing later  to night..

Microsoft admits Windows Updates principally created to annoy

Make sure you read the full article though to see its proper context, you conspiracy theorists.

My conspiracy theory is that most, if not all, viruses and other malware are created by the companies who sell the software to remove them.

Microsoft admits Windows Updates principally created to annoy

Microsoft has admitted that its regular software updates are ‘pranks’ largely generated by bored or frustrated programmers. The admission, which follows a three-year investigation by a special US Congressional Committee, has merely confirmed what many computer experts have been saying for some time.

For those CSers who have recently upgraded to Win7, heres a link to a very helpful site that supplies Free User Guides in the form of a PDF Tweaking Manual.... http://www.tweakguides.com/TGTC.html Older versions of Windows are also supported... 8-)

I installed Windows 7 (64 bit) using the education-discounted version you can buy online. I clean installed and, other than an initial problem with unpacking the installer, everything has been sweet since. Recommend the upgrade from vista.

    Re: Windows 7 - thoughts?

I have been using windows 7 for a few days and enjoying some of the features. Still loading stuff back on and getting frustrated finding music files to link to my ipod. What I have found is that win7 does not have a stereo mixer in its devices... instead digital audio(s/pdif). Previously I could show hidden devices and enable stereo mixer...disable microphone and the sound recorder or software like Audacity will record the output sound of the computer .This is handy for recording streaming or line input. I am a technical novice here but why have a sound recorder that cant record with the installed drivers. I gather I will have to install old sound card drivers or wait for new ones. Any thoughts from IT snobs?

Loving Windows 7. Better all round performance out-of-the-box then SP2 Vista in most if not all applications.

Driver support is now a lot better now than when I first started testing it as well

Would recommend to anyone looking to upgrade, however dont expect it to change your life forever if you only use our pc for basic necessities.
100% agree here.  Have been running Vista as my main Media Centre PC for a while now (and XP MCE prior to that) - cut over to Windows 7 and WOW!  Performance better all round on a heavily used PC, and the Media Centre experience is miles better.  A big thumbs up from me. As always, I suggest a clean install over an upgrade full stop - you dont have to look far to see not much has changed with this version re upgrade issues http://industry.bnet.com/technology/10003925/windows-7-upgrade-causing-endless-boot-loop/

Probably depends a lot on ones machine specs Stan...

I know on machines that are borderline for adequate Vista performance, the improvement by stepping up to Win7 can be quite significant due to Win7s more efficient use of resources. This isnt reflected when the hardware spec is near the top echelon for Vista though, discovered after running my own series of tests....

I say this, as a game enthusiast, performance enthusiast, and just straight up super geek.
Well, Im not too far removed from that description as it happens....

I ran several current office apps, several games (current DX10 as well as DX9), a couple of professional graphics programs, a couple of archiving programs and a couple of video production programs from clean installations of each o/s.

In all cases, Vista Ultimate SP2 and Win7 were within a whisker of each other from a performance point of view, no significant advantages either way so there just isnt an argument for me to move out of Vista at this time, especially at the ridiculous price being demanded by M$ for the privilege.... >

    Mal.
Although I stated superior in the defense of W7, Id say you wont need to upgrade anytime soon Mal! Im pretty sure that it is just minor differences in performance, and my references are going off credible sites instead of first hand experience.

But, Microsoft will be Microsoft, when it comes to their O/S. Expensive!

The comparing of a "fresh installation" of an OS to an "old installation" of an older OS isnt very scientific.
Also comparing a new OS on a new machine would only be relevent if the old OS was loaded on the new machine as well.
Im pretty sure the new machines hardware would be a fair bit more advanced than the older machine.
