We had a Banjos Bakery here in Coffs that went tits up and when we were wanderig around inside after 6 months about the only thing the rats and cockies had not touched was a commercial 5kg? box of opened margarine, They had chewed through a fiar bit of the plastics in the shop including the mains wiring 86 amps a phase - Big Oven..

I, too, am a butter girl through and through - Im sorry, but steak cooked with oil is just not the same! We border on offending my mother in law at times because when we go up to stay for a weekend, well either take or buy butter on the way.

Similarly, we dont touch artificial sugars, either - Nutrasweet, etc leaves a long, lingering icky sweet taste in my mouth for hours afterwards. *shudder*

    Cheers
    Di

I always preferred the taste of butter.......mmmmmmmmmmmm butter.
I recall [as kids] someone suggested we stick our noses into the margarine tub and take a sniff.........Yuck it smells like a nasty chemical factory.

I would like to point out something that a lot of you blokes have probably NOT noticed about "margarine"...because Im sure your wives buy the stuff...

Anyway...Margarine is not called margarine anymore...I dont know why or when it was changed but I bet you 5 bucks that you cant find any such thing as "margarine" on your stoopidmarket shelves any more.

Rather all it is called now is "spread"...

    Go and have a look...

    See if Im wrong...

I also prefer butter in its pure form as well...and I really hate those ads on tv atm about how bad butter is for your kids because I believe that this so called "spread" is the greater evil...
    SNAP ROFL.....

I would not know... If I came home with any thing but the correct Butter ( As clearly indicated on teh shopping list) I would cop it big time...

Very close friend went through a cancer operation recently and during the convalesence the surgeon came to see him and have a chat.  The first thing he asked Mark was "do you eat butter or margarine?"  The surgeon is so convinced of margarines evils he is keeping annecdotals on all cancer patients in this particular hospital in the hopes he will convince someone to fund his studies.  I too only eat butter (country boy who prefers food made by nature not scientists) but surely everything in moderation.... exceptions for coffee naturally.

Yeah, there are a few embellishments in the chemistry too but  AMs post lets me feel good about eating butter ;D :P

Pass the BUTTER  PLEASE and I will have a coffee with that to go !!!
Never said it was true and yep... Know full well about some of teh fancy additions and e-mail spam etc...  Plenty of rubish out there about most food products...

My wife will not have it in the house.. Butter all the way, as it is what she uses in the cooking..

Last night had one of the best meals ever and it was floating in butter / ghee and with a bottle of Rose followed by a coffee when we got home...  I just had to find a way to praise the product..

Now...Pass the BUTTER  PLEASE and I will have a coffee with that; to go !!!

Re: Pass The Butter .. Please.

Two points here out of interest:

1 I am old enough to remember the tremendous fight that the margarine companies had to get their product accepted for domestic sale as a butter substitute in the fifties [I think]. The entrenched Butter interests at all levels, dairy farmers, butter manufacturers and political interests mostly Country Party fought tooth and nail with outrageous false claims to keep margarine from the shop shelves. Margarine of course was introduced at about half the price of butter. Now I think there is little price difference.

2 Regarding colour, in some overseas countries, I think USA, some Middle East and European countries you will find butter is white. We are one of the few places which introduce artificial colouring.
