    Hi All

Given i dont know that this is even coffee related for sure i am posting as an off topic so mods pleas move if appropriate. A mate told me he had what he thought was a coffee grinder that was dropped off at the back of his shop when a deli closed in the same shop arcade they were in.

He emailed me a pic of it (not great quality) but hopefully someone may be able to tell me what it actually is and if its worth restoring.

I am told it has the name "otto swaldo" although i think there may be some dyslexia involved here. Searching google under that name brings up otto swadlo but nothing relating to grinders.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me.

    Hi Mal

What you have there is a deli/bag grinder and looks to be from the early to mid 60s.

"otto swaldo" is more likely to be "Osvaldo" or "Oswaldo" depending on which part of the world it comes from and a model name rather than the name of the manufacturer.

Whether or not its worth restoring is entirely up to you and particularly, if you can find the correct sized bur plates. They will be flat and around 83mm diameter (some turn left and others turn right). The cylindrical part in front of the hopper would originally have turned to change the grind setting by moving one plate closer or further away from the other.

Thats a nice, and likely to be a hand-blown glass hopper up top. Dont bother trying to get it apart from the metal - they were cemented in to stay in! And obviously if it breaks would be a special order from a glassblower.

When it was new it might have been as fast as a Robur!!!

    Cheers!
