Re: Which industry does coffee roasting fall into?
I have starting looking into this as well but in Qld. I have received a few conflicting answers depending on which department I speak to and which info document I read. The main issue is whether the roasting part, not the selling part, is considered a licensable food business under the Food Act and whether this requires the submission of a substantial amount of building plans, etc. to local council for approval. Does anyone have first hand experience with this in Qld and perhaps point me to where it is actuated stated clearly in writing? Thanks.

Yes, its a food. Give the NSW Authority a call - they dont bite and its easy to register. You can even do it online.

Which industry does coffee roasting fall into?
Hi all,
Im looking into the regulations, permits etc regarding coffee roasting and want to ensure Ive got all my bases covered however, Im not exactly sure which industry coffee roasting falls into... is it a food?!?
Can someone please help me out this this? And does a roastery need to be licensed with the Food Authority in NSW? Im looking into this from a simple roastery (coffee roasting, sorting, packing and distribution facility) not with a cafe attached and would really appreciate a little assistance with someone whos gone through this in NSW.
Many thanks,
MatthewTags: None
