I bought My wife an Acer netbook for her birthday and she loves it.
Like a lot of netbooks it came with Windows 7 Starter and no DVD
player/burner. So I thought, lets buy an external DVD player/burner,
thatll solve the problem. BUT.... 7 Starter will NOT play DVDs even though the external unit installed and was recognized by the netbook :-?
One solution would have been to upgrade to Windows 7 Home edition - but that would have added around $140 to the $65 cost of the DVD unit. So after a lot of searching the net I discovered an open source program called VLC Media which solved the problem for FREE :-)
If youre wanting to add a DVD unit to a Windows 7 Starter netbook, then download the program:

It works beautifully
