Re: What constitutes a commercial site (posting policy)
I wish more site sponsors were active contributors. You dont hear a peep out of some of them even when there product is discussed.

No, not for me thanks.... :Originally posted by 4C486E7777726D7A751B0 link=1271111638/10#10 date=1271155470remember, site mods are unpaid for their work here, if you want to pay them a wage to sit at a computer all day sorting through every single post that is made by the 10 000 odd members then im sure they will happily accept.....for the right price ;D.........
It would then be classified as a "Job" and that would definitely take a lot of the fun out of it for me

Re: What constitutes a commercial site (posting policy)
In all my few thousand posts I have had only 1 mod edit which resulted with a site link removal just 2 days ago
It did not really matter to me
In any case the site did not sell by a checkout but asked one to contact the business by email
Now I have one under my belt lets hope its a few more thousand posts before I slip up again ;D ;D ;D ;D

Who rattled your cage and who are you to set the topics we should and shouldnt discuss?Originally posted by 4642647D7D7867707F110 link=1271111638/10#10 date=1271155470Get on with life people
While there is a remove at the discretion of the mods and Andy this thing will arrise from time to time and as mainly adults here we should be able to discuss matters about it.
There is several interest groups here that need to be looked after and one of them is certainly the sponsors. Without them and Andys support this site is toast and wouldnt survive.
We the general users of the group also make it function for without us our discussions questions, answers and advice given there is NO point to this site.
So when "information" can not be presented and refered to it affects the way this site can function from all the users point of view.
At the end of the day Andys sets the policy as its his site.

If this does in fact go against site policy, then it slipped through, remember, site mods are unpaid for their work here, if you want to pay them a wage to sit at a computer all day sorting through every single post that is made by the 10 000 odd members then im sure they will happily accept.....for the right price ;D.........

Re: What constitutes a commercial site (posting policy)
I am very well aware of commercial links as I have been hanging around here for long enough and from time to time point that out to others as well. This no commercial links policy has been flexible from what I have seen too when it suits from time to time.
There is NO WHERE on the La Pavoni manufacturers site from that original link to a shopping cart option to buy THAT machine. Only their domestic machines are on the Cart system. It was a clear link to information on a commercial one group that the OP wanted to discuss and as those files are not anywhere on a sponsors website this is one of those instances where leaving it stand makes far more sense.

Thanks... Did not read all teh background.. Just the last few posts and as links were removed.. thus was unable to lookOriginally posted by 227D657378737F767675757D717E100 link=1271111638/6#6 date=1271115991Yes AM- and thats how it was applied as well. As we have sponsors selling Pav, it would be more appropriate to link to the sponsor page.Originally posted by 1D323B392E113D323D3B39313932285C0 link=1270507607/22#22 date=1271115333I always thought it was more directed around coffee stuff and some level of protection for sponsors.
Mods will attempt to make a educated jugesstimate on any other link ;D
Links to blogs which point to commercial sites are not on. In some (many?) cases, theyre more about self-promotion anyway...
I think I will clip all of this stuff out and create a new thread anyway- so as to allow the original thread to resume discussion.

I guess the issue for me was the Implied Coffee content VS the statement "An information site is fine. A commercial site where stuff is for sale is not.."
I just wanted some level of clarification as to the fact that if it is not in direct competition then there is some level of assessment as to teh link being allowed.
Which you have done.
Thanks.. Much Clearer now.. But may be not crystal clear at all times ;D

sheesh....Lets s p e l l it out then....
Do you see anything for sale there? Is there a shopping cart??
An information site is fine. A commercial site where stuff is for sale is not..
Can we make it any clearer?? :
I also get confused at times... So a link to Tandy, Umart Online or Bunnings if they have a shopping cart are banned ?
I always thought it was more directed around coffee stuff and some level of protection for sponsors.
Did not realise it was a TOTAL ban on any commercial site....
I guess I and others have read and made assumptions as to the interpretation of teh site policy.
We live and learn..
