  • Re: What do Coffee Snobs do for a crust

"I feel like such a technophobe", after reading some of your occupations.
I think Ive got the hardest job Ive ever done, a stay at home mum. Do a couple of mornings a week volunteering in the kids school. Have a part-time job with a Care Group, visiting homes of the frail/elderley.

Have owned 2 businesses pre and post children, a Beauty Therapy Clinic, got tired of waxing bums. Built and ran a B&B. Busy and full on.
Will fire up the 2 Group Pavoni when I find a grinder in fantastic condition for a great price. I have a few ideas for an income when I have more time on my hands. Passionate cook and love baking.
Started entering cooking in Shows a few years ago. Prize money is soooo low, but I just love the glory, such as it is. Most of my friends are hopeless cooks by their admission. Love teaching children to bake .
Long winded I know, but thats what I dol

Dont worry, there are quite a few of us "technophobes" around here!

Prior to Easter Monday I ran a lawnmowing and garden maintenance business. While doing a small job at home installing a soakwell I managed to tear my bicep tendon completely off my shoulder (brought tears to my eyes!!!!).
So for the remainder of this year I have been recovering from a shoulder re-construction doing exercises and gong to physio etc each day. I am making slow progress but still have 2-3 more months of rehab before I get back into action.
So at the moment I am the cook, shopper etc while my wife brings home the bacon.
I have plenty of time for coffee browsing and roasting and go for lots of walks with my dog to keep fit between exercise sessions.
In hindsight I should have watched the footy on TV that day instead of jobs in the yard!!!!

          Married a financial planner. ;D

Used to be an admin/project/marketing manager prior to having a kid a few years ago.

Started an easy part-time job this year to support my CoffeeSnobs journey. I was supposedly saving for an $18,000 Yamaha Clavinova so I could start composing orchestrated music easily. Really Im saving for a $2,500-3,000 coffee machine. : And a Pullman tamper. 8-)

Well now. That sounds to me like youve got your priorities right there, Intellidepth. After all, youre going to be needing good coffee and lots of it if youre going to be composing orchestrated music easily!

                    Karen,
Have you ever thought of borrowing the cinemas popcorn machine to roast coffee? That would be an amazing sight. Could be a new business venture for the cinema - "Wednesday night is movie and roast night" or set up seats in front of the machine and make the roasting the movie.

                      I can see it now:

Wide-eyed kid: Mummy, can I have some more of that coffee-flavoured pop-corn we had at the movies?

Mum: Not now. Its 2AM - go to sleep!!

                        Sounds very interesting....

i have seen some discussions on using the popcorn makers...

might have to look a little bit further into things!!

I also have alot of late night shifts waiting for films to end!! so
maybe it could be somthing to do to fill in the time!!

                        nice...

Interesting topic - I just made it through 22 pages while reinstalling windows after computing problems!  I am a statistician.  Otherwise, a father of a gorgeous 2 year old, with another due in two weeks.

There are lots of motorbikes talked about - so I will add mine.  A 2000 suzuki GSXR 600.  Great fun to ride when i am not getting back operations!

Software for warehouse management - a bit of development, a bit of analysis, a bit of project management... That is during my office hours. The rest of the time - being a father to 9 months old daughter, its a kind of work too ;-) even though much more fun than coding..

My business card says IT Systems and Support Manager, but essentially im the guy that makes the computers talk to eachother and the IP phones work for a national retailer.

Looking to move to real management soon after i complete my masters of management.
