  • Re: What do Coffee Snobs do for a crust

Me? Semi-retired dealer and collector of Scandinavian mid century furniture. Into rosewood and black leather at the moment...and nice espresso machines of course.

I do the auction rounds in Melbourne and have seen some lovely espresso machines go extraordinarily cheap but have never really gone after them. After discovering this site my focus has somewhat changed. Picked up a lovely little Pavoni lever last week  ;D

Education is only as good as the results produced by the title-holder......

Currently Barista/Manager at a Sydney cafe (not many hospitality people here I notice. Disillusioned? or is it the roasting side?)

Anyway I am currently deffered on my studies, but I am studying Aerospace Engineering/Physics double degree at UNSW. Painful >.<
After 3 years out of 5 at Uni, I dropped my studies to take up a job in Financial Planning!

Im now working in Melbourne as a Paraplanner, essentially the back office support for a Financial Planner. I write the plans and devise the investment strategy, he is the one who convinces the client to adopt it!

Well nowhere near as exciting as anyone else however...
Ran a transport and storage logistics for a nation wide bedding supplier (supplying HN, 40W, Capn Snz amongst others). Left there and ended up Manager at a Building materials yard. Left there to be a nobody storeman in caravan manufacturing company for more money, less hours and far better conditions than any of the previously stated jobs. The real fun starts when I get home though. Im a hardcore gamer.... hence the massive caffeine addiction. Something about 3-4 hours of sleep a night may be the reason that for me to go though 300g of beans in a day is not uncommon. Funnily, my wife who has never been one for coffee now cannot have a simple vanilla latte when she goes out stating that all the cafes serve is "stale coffee"
So glad I got fed up with local coffee store telling me they had "fresh beans" and turned to the net to find Andy and the ever fantastic Beanbay.

After more years than I care to remember working as an administrator in the tertiary education sector I am very pleased and proud to say I am retired and do nothing very important with my time other than attend morning teas, have lunch with the girls, go on holidays - love driving - not unusual to travel 5,000klm in a two week trip, travel OS as often as possible, visit the kids (have three in three different states), do a bit of volunteer work at the local school, take on a little admin work when Im asked but most importantly  I have time to tinker with the coffee making and roasting (which I love) and post questions on the CCs site which sometimes get me into trouble

Im currently "between contracts" so my time between coffees is now spent looking for a new job or keeping Centrelink and Jobfind employees occupied.

No degrees for moi, Im simply a sales and marketing gal for wholesale travel companies. Spent 23 years as a travel agent and made the jump to the other side of the desk and am loving the flexibility it gives me. I work under contract for 2 different companies visiting travel agents and training and updating them and working on database marketing to same travel agents from home and have to do the occassional travel expo in town. Gives me lots of time at home to enjoy my coffee!!

sound tech for a company that takes care of commercial pa systems (the shitty music in coles/woolie/target/big w)
we also do real pa systems for churches and concert halls, but most of that work gets done by the guys down in adl.
