  • This is my first post. I have been here reading for a couple of weeks and am fascinated.

I have some cheap gear as in a krups and an Aldi espresso machine, a Porlex hand grinder, a couple of plungers and espresso pots an Aeropress a Breville milk frother, and other bits and pieces. I have been into coffee since I can remember, I am 59 years old. I am about to make a Corretto to give roasting a shot, it is something that I have dreamed about doing since my 20's and finding the threads on building one were very exciting.

At this point I am a one post wonder but I have a lot to learn and this forum is a real trove of treasure.

Please excuse me if I don't post a lot as I have not even got the questions to ask as yet but I do love coffee.

I didn't spot an introductions thread so I thought I would just jump in here. If not appropriate could you be kind enough to direct me to the right place.

I feel better now having broke in as I felt a little like a Peeping Tom. I need to keep reading for now and then I think questions will come.

    Nice to meet you all.

        • Hey!

Quick hello from a very new noob here. Just got myself a Breville BES900 and also ordered the smart grinder - I'm trying to get technique somewhere close with pre-ground supermarket coffee at the moment (sorry!). But grinder should be here soon - I have ordered a roasted starter pack from Beanbay so I'm chomping at the bit to 'really' get stuck in!!

          • Hey snobs,

Another newbie here. I'm based in Perth and use a sunbeam 6910 and CHEMEX Pour over at home. Always got something new on the grinder.

I sold my first cafe 6 months ago where I was using a Kees Van Der Westen Mirage with a couple of Robur E's.

In the process of setting up an espresso bar now about 5 km north of the cbd and will be using the Wega Concept Greenline.

Not sure on etiquette on mentioning suppliers so won't go there.

            Cheers

            Darren

            • Hi aall
thought I say hi since I'm still new here.
Based at Perth, home coffee drinker who wanted to have more than just nespresso pod coffee
went the super auto coffee machine and was wondering why I'm still missing the full flavour taste I get from my coffee shop.

After further reading and asking around. I found out I should be looking for a proper espresso machine. A cheap ass like me, I gone gumtree hunting.
This is my current set up

heres to many years of coffee enjoyment

              - Joe from Perth

                  errr... let see now...
Silvia: $300 comes with tamper, milk jug, cups, knock box and cleaning stuffs... condition was pretty new as the previous owner bought it for their son... kid lost interest after a short while, and left it behind when he moved interstate... still had the original sticker over the top when I took it home
M5: $230 (but needs a bit cleaning.... Burrs still look newish)
Ikea Bekvam kitchen trolley : $79 (Added in a drawer handle)
Stainless steel cover for trolley : $50
Espro tamper : $90 from fleEBay
                  VST 20g Double Basket : $30
Electronic Scale: $10 from local swap meet

All up... just under $800... but I do have 2 extra grinders I have sitting in my cupboard now to sell off

was going to get a Gaggia Classic for $195 and one popped up for $150; but ended up choosing the Silvia instead... no regrets so far.... Going to try to dial in the M5 tonight as this morning it choked my poor Silvia in 2 separate grind settings and I was in a rush to get to work...

                  • Hi all,

I've been lurking around for a while on and off, checking forums, reading up on my next bit of gear (currently thinking a Rocket Giotto and Compak K3 would be a great next machine)
                    I've currently got a Sunbeam EM6910 and EM0480 combo
I actually won it a few years back during a Gloria Jeans comp, it comes with laser engraving of their logo and everything
Can't believe how much I've come, haven't bothered roasting my own beans, I want to master pulling shots and texturing milk first
Currently ordering beans online from a couple of roasteries in Rockingham and Melbourne

Anyway, that's a bit about me, hoping to chat to some of you and learn some more soon :-)

                        • HI!

                          Hi all,

I have been a long time trawler and this is my first post. Just wanted to say hi. I have only seriously begun experimenting with coffee at the start of this year and it has been wonderful. I would never have thought it possible for me to roast my own green beans and here I am. I Just wanted to thank you all for providing such helpful information, I wouldn't be able to achieve so much without all your help. I hope to develop some experience of my own in the future and be able to contribute more to the discussions . Anyways happy coffee-ing!
