    • Thanks Yelta and Mal for the kind welcome
I will certainly be posting my progress with the corretto and no doubt seeking the odd bit of advice. I should say also the thing I'm most impressed about with the forum is the commitment by forum member and beanbay to sourcing coffee ethically and of course the Faircrack initiative. My other half, who loves coffee, but thinks I'm a nut because of my obsessiveness with it, considers ethical sourcing to be the most important element of the process and as a result doesn't mind me engaging in what she considers to be the folly of home roasting.
      Cheers

"Folly of home roasting" never! trust me, once you and your other half have experienced the superior quality and constant supply of fresh beans you will both be converts, not to mention the cost benefits.

She will take some convincing especially when she sees what I will be doing to her beloved bread maker - cue evil chuckle...

              • Hi From Perth

Hi from a long time lurker. I have been putting off joining here for a few years in fear of gaining another obsession and forum (I seem to have an attraction to forums) but the pull was all to much. I spent two years working as a barista in a GJ's cafe about 7 years ago and ever since have battled away with my domestic Delongi and more recently Sunbeam machines the whole time wishing for a single group comercial machine.

It seems the time has come to take the plunge so I figure I should join up and say hi with the hope of drawing on the wisdom of the forum and maybe even contributing in a posative way sometime.

                Cheers,
                Burnsy

                • Hi Burnsy
You've come to the right place if you want to fuel a caffeinated passion.
If you want to meet up with some Perth coffee obsessives come to Dimattina in Osborne Park 1pm on a Friday to the regular cupping session run by Jono, great tasting coffee, friendly relaxed atmosphere and heaps of coffee geekism on offer.
                  cheers Trevor

                      • Hello CS.

My name is Jason. I live in Brisbane and I love coffee. I am still learning (albeit slowly).

I have a Sunbeam EM4800c that is about 5+ years old and has been making between 3-5 cups almost every day since purchased. I luckily have not had to replace a single part as yet. Although the seal around the shower screen is getting old and brittle.
I have only just recently (last 6 months) taken steps to better my coffee making and appreciation abilities.

I bought a new Bezerra BB004 Grinder just after christmas and now can grind my beans for a fresher cup. My taste buds are only sometimes thanking me as i haven't quite got the grind and tamp perfect and consistent yet. I am learning though.

After weeks of reading these forums i decided to join the community.

I ordered myself the KRUPS single and double non-pressurized filters today as i was totally unaware the sunbeams was pressurized and it was killing me that i could not get any pour longer than 15 seconds to taste good at all.

I realized only in the last 12 months how badly i had been treating my machine. (never truly cleaned it until 11 months ago. SO MUCH BURNT COFFEE BEHIND THE SHOWER SCREEN!!!) I cleaned it out and ran descaler and cleaner through it.

I was living a lie. My coffee was bad, really bad. Now i have it tasting better i am ashamed at how bad it was. Luckily i never really made coffees for other people. Just me.

I am now on the long battle of mastering my barista skills and enjoying a better cup. I look forward to helping (if i can) and appreciate this communities knowledge and help i have already received.

                        • Welcome to Coffee Snobs Jason, sounds like you've had a great run out of the Sunbeam, plenty to learn here and lots of helpful Snobs to assist.

                          • Welcome from me too Jason...

Pretty sure your experience is mirrored by plenty of us here in CS (though not all - TG springs to mind ).

Mostly though, just have fun and enjoy the bean. That's what it's all about...

                            Mal.
