Thanks for the welcome, this really is a brilliant site. Now to practice my latte art using the trusty Kambrook...

      • Hi all long time lurker first time poster. Great to see such enthusiasm and knowledge in these forums. I am amazed at how active to coffee scene is on Aus. I live in Melbourne and work in the city so am exposed to some great cafes. I am a realative newby to coffee. Only got into it seriously about 5 years ago. I was lucky enough to have a father that was a coffee nut. I used to make his espressos for him on his Olympia cremina when I was a teen but never really drank it only got into it when I started work. Thanks to him I am addicted to good coffee and lever machines! Got a second hand cremina of the bay of evil and rebuilt in a few years ago and haven't looked back. Hope to spend many hours here on the forums.

        Cheers

        • Hi Noddy and welcome to CS!

Looks like your intro to coffee was pretty top shelf!

Plenty of tinkerers here to share your next rebuild project with.

Lots of great resources and resourceful people to throw ideas around with!!

          • Yeah i must admit I was pretty spoilt with family being into coffee. Must be in the genes. I really have to refrain a little on this forum. Roasting your own beans really looks interesting.. I must resist the urge!

            • Hi All,

I have been lurking in the background, slowly turning into coffee snob. Now that I have its good time to introduce myself.

From day one I always preferred coffee over Tea. Used to love the coffee my mum used to make.

Back then it was a filter coffee with 75% coffee and 25% Chicory and 2 sugars and milk. (That’s how you mostly get coffee in India)

After migrating to Australia loved the coffee from ( Hudson's and like chain of coffees) with sugar of course

Then somehow got used to drinking without sugar (mostly Waistline in mind)

              3 years ago I bought a Breville 800ES, luckily came with a BCG450

After that reading all the info from website I developed quite a taste for coffee.

Modified bcg450 to grind finer, bought non pressurized baskets and pull a good shot (at least good enough to please me and wife's taste buds)

Learnt to froth the milk properly etc.

Few months ago upgraded the grinder to Smart Grinder and quite happy with the results (Not for long).

Since I used to buy same day roasted coffee beans from local roaster it would taste perfect for first weakish then after that it would go pretty stale. Did not help with the consumption rate being only couple of cups per week.

Started taking French press and coffee beans and my old girder to work, and that helped increase consumption rate.
One of colleague introduced me to Aero press and that’s what I am using to brew coffee at work and it has been great.
Now that I am used to good coffee, even a 2 week old coffee beans does not satisfy my taste buds. Now I am looking into roasting myself. Since I only consume 250 g per week that should be perfect for Behmor 1600 Plus. Once I figure out where I can put the roaster (I don’t have much room in my Kitchen or in the house) I will be ordering one from Andy. I think mostly My Garage or under cover decking area.
Sorry about long introduction, and thanks for all the great info in the forum, which I was taping into since a year or so.

                • Hey all, I think it's my turn to introduce myself also!
First off what a fantastic forum.
I am also in melbourne and have gotten more 'particular' about my coffee over the last couple of years.
i inherited an atomic about 8 years ago from my dad who got it new 38 years ago. It needs a little work now but since then I have moved through a breville, gaggia and saeco and now have a Silvia teamed up with a mazzer mini (bought from this site). I am now struggling with myself to upgrade once again, my powers to resist are fading....
                  i just love coffee!
                  cheers

                    • Hey all,

Just wanted to give a brief intro and give a what's up to the community. I live in BC, Canada, where coffee is more of an afterthought than an obsession, or even a pleasure, unfortunately. 20 oz mugs of Starbucks or the beloved Timmy Ho's is the go around these parts. Terrible.

I lived in NSW for a year and was exposed to some great coffee in Sydney and a couple of trips down to Melbs. After that a year in NZ definitely solidified the need for good coffee in my life.

So, I am on a path to slowly getting kitted out for a home setup. I have an old Faema Family that I am going to give a good overhaul to and am in the process of trying to get my hands on a decent grinder, but the budget is a little tight at the moment.

Ideally my partner and I want to dive into home roasting.

I look forward to being a member of the community and obtaining a wealth of knowledge from all that can be found here.

                      Cheers!

                      • Hey!

I have been into coffee for a pretty long time. Ever since leaving school and having to get up at the crack of dawn for
work. A lot of the time its been pretty average coffee from different cafes in the outer suburbs of Melbourne.

I get more of a chance to seek out a good quality coffee on the weekend. Even then I am a bit sick of the inconsistencies.

I was given a crappy little sunbeam a few weeks ago and now I am hooked on making my own coffee. I am already looking
at upgrading to a nicer machine. I have an appointment at Talk Coffee next weekend to pick up a nice grinder and discuss
my options for a new machine. Cant wait!

                        • Great site, have used this a few times for info when Im travelling and recently thought I should join officially. Im originally from Melbourne and now in Alice Springs. Ive actually found a couple of pretty solid coffee places here, but I always go looking for good coffee whenever I travel interstate. I can honestly say the quality of coffee in Melbourne from your average city building coffee joint has slipped over the past 3 years, even at some using some supposedly good product. I used to work in the CBD and you could get a decent coffee about 3-4 times out of 5 almost anywhere you went. Now I have to hunt for it- hence using this site more and more, and that's just not a taste thing. Anyway, im about to move back to vic- although down Gippsland way- so im looking to forward to the 'hunt'. Although Im also hoping to get myself set up again with a decent machine and grinder. I did have a gaggia baby dose twin which I found to be consistently really good until the pump (or something like that) broke, so I will be in the market for new gear when im settled in

                          • Introducing Concept

                            Hey Coffee Lovers,

Couldn't find an intros area so thought I would post here. Excited to meet and talk to peoples.

Bit about me, I've been a Barista and Cafe Manager. I love coffee (duh), and have a passion for small business and exceptional customer service. I just love walking into a cafe like it is a second home

Other things about me, I love drawing, writing and being generally creative. I find pleasure in getting to know people and helping where possible.

I look forward to talking to you all

                            Cheers

                            • Hi all.

I started getting into coffee through cycling.... Used to ride around Adelaide all weekend drinking coffee when I was younger. Been riding less but becoming more of a snob. Have had a Gaggia Classic for a few years which has been great fun and has taught me a lot.

Recently got into Aeropress after a few Melbourne friends convinced me to give it a go. Have a bread machine waiting to have a crack at home roasting and just bought myself a 1974 La Pavoni Europiccola! Looking forward to having a play with the lever and hopefully taking my espresso to a new level.

I heading to Japan in a week for my honeymoon so might pick up some Hario goodies while I am there...

Thanks for sharing so much knowledge - I have certainly done my fair share of lurking over the years and think it is time to give something back if I can.

                              Cheers,
                              Tim.

                              • G'day Ladies & Gentlemen

I accept how you came to being Coffee Snobbers, but anyone who knows me would attest that I'm a lover, & never a snobber.

I'm born & bred South Australian, & haven't lived outside of a 3 Km radius of my upbringing. My gorgeous wife of 40 years & I haven't traveled further than Coolangatta (twice), & overseas amounts to St Helens Tasmania, so I'm an open target for interstate, wordly adventure seekers.

Warning: DO NOT HAVE FOOD, OR ANY BEVERAGE IN YOUR MOUTH AS YOU READ THIS.

I drank over boilt full cream milk with chicory coffee essence, & 2 heaped sugar spoons (not to be confused with teaspoons) of sugar as a kid for my coffee fix. Occasionally, I'd luck onto getting the thick chewy milk skin to savour. Ah, those were the days.

                                Cheers

                                John
