  • I've done a few posts but thought I might as well introduce myself properly. I live in Brisbane and started getting into coffee last year around this time just after I turned 17. Id already been drinking coffee for years through a french press, but using either pre ground or really old coffee. I started watching some YouTube videos and heard about one of the big specialty roaster in Australia so decided to try some of there coffee.
For some reason I splurged and bought one of the geishas they had on offer and that was where I really became a coffee snob. I started drinking more and more coffee and eventually found a local cafe that was also a roastery and started going there everyday after school. One day I went in while the boss was in and we started talking and then 30 minutes later I had my first coffee job.
From there I started getting into coffee even more and eventually started roasting at home (work place doesn't do specialty grade coffee) and now, while still working at the other cafe, I roast at home for a local cafe. So yeah being only 18 I have a lot more to learn and experience but I'm loving CS as a resource.
    Cheers, Jacob

    • Welcome guys, perhaps a little belatedly...

Main thing, is to have fun and you seem well and truly to be achieving that.

      Happy brewing,
      Mal.

          • Introduction

            Hello,

Just an introduction as I have registered and this being my first post. I hope I have posted in the correct place.

I have been been visiting the site for the last month perusing information and reviews for my big upgrade into the espresso machine world.

I just wanted to say thanks to all the members who provide a fantastic knowledge base throughout CS. Keep up the great work as CS is a great place that has helped steered me so far.

I'm eager to find out more and can't wait to have good home espresso. At present I have settled on a Rocket Giotto PP V2, I'm finalising and justify the spend to the wife, now just need to find a suitable grinder and get the bosses approval for total spend.

            cheers

            • Welcome Bigs to my favourite web site. I reckon most of my coffee education has come from this site. I suggest you contact one of the sponsors for more information. Where do you live?

                • Hi Bigs and welcome to CS!

Great coffee at home is justification enough for having decent gear on the kitchen bench!

I would recommend the Macap M4D grinder to pair with the Rocket. A list of one.;-)

If you look through the grinder thread you will find some recent (and older ) posts about happy buyers/users.

Use the search tab to locate all the references.

We look forward to hearing more of your coffee quest...........

                    Welcome Bigs,

The Giotto Plus V2 was superseded in April 2014 by the current model Giotto Plus V3 which incorporates PID temperature control rather than the conventional pressurestat of the V2. You may find it difficult/impossible to find a V2.

                    Cheers

                    Chris

                      Hi Barri,

yeah based in Perth. There seems a few suppliers here but yet to get into all of them yet.

i have reservations regarding getting espresso machine interstate, especially if the there is no local supplier and or something fails and local supplier doesn't want to touch it as it wasn't purchased from them. I've experienced that before.

                        Hi Chris,

Thanks for the info. I have in fact been provided quotes from one supplier here in Perth. The V3 being slightly more being the latest and having the PID. Both machines quoted as brand new etc.
Whilst I understand the PID gives better boiler control and thus more customisation with each variety of bean, I'm not sure how desirable a PID may be.

Please don't get me wrong, I know very little than what I have read from other opinions or intended balanced reviews etc. may I ask what your thoughts are on the difference between the V2 & V3, given the choice and if you were putting one your own kitchen bench - which would you go for?

Open to all constructive and negative feedback. ;o)

                        Cheers

                          Cheers Chokkidog,

I have heard lots mention the Macap M4D, also evaluating the Mazzer mini. More time researching on CS me thinks. ;o)

                            • As the post suggests, just wanted to break my duck and post something!

Currently using an Isomac machine at home with a Breville grinder. I buy my coffee, generally, from Quists Coffee Shop in Lt Collins (near the Portland Hotel) and love coming back!

Still working on finding my best coffee at home, practice makes perfect

                              Cheers
