Been reading the forum for a while as I was in the market for a machine that will grind and brew. After the 20% Ebay sale I purchased a Breville Barista Express BES870 and picked up a bag of Goodness Galileo from Coffee Alchemy.
After I get my coffee right I plan on getting my hands on some green beans to roast as I need as I mainly only make my own coffee on weekends so the turnover is not high.
Not sure if it's a good or bad thing but now I tend to notice how baristas make my coffee in the morning coffee and it frustrates me how they take short cuts to pump them out faster. :S
Been buying from BeanBay and lurking for a while now so thought I'd introduce myself. My coffee adventure started when I couldn't think of a birthday gift so got a cheap Delonghi semiautomatic machine. I was using safeway shelf Vittoria beans with a pressurized filter basket and an auto-frother. When I stumbled on this site I found out how much I was missing out on and how far I had to go... and my coffee addiction has snowballed since then (oh the upgraditis!)
I picked up my trusty Rocky a while back and it hasn't missed a beat; it's seen me through a few machines now! I very recently upgraded to a Rocket Giotto, having some great experimenting fun with it right now. I also roast my beans from BeanBay using a Behmor, which seemed like a massive step at the time, but I can't imagine not roasting now. I've tried out many brew methods (press, pourover, cold drip, aeropress) but still find it hard to beat a latte or espresso.
This forum has helped me every step of the way - guides, advice, equipment and stunning beans!

G'Day Nick, welcome to Coffee Snobs, sounds like your going to fit in pretty well.
I surprised myself this last week with a sudden impulse to buy a 'coffee machine' off a work colleague who was swapping up to a Giotto, so I am now the proud owner of a Rancilio Silvia which the previous owner had just got back from service with a new boiler, steam wand/knob, seals etc and which appears to be like new. it makes wicked coffee (he also ground me some coffee to get me started) and I am thrilled to bits with it, so now I am just beginning to get into the dark science of coffee.
Being on a budget and not knowing much about it all, I have also just bought a Sunbeam Em0480 grinder, which whilst basic appears to have fair reviews. My next step then was to register here (perhaps I should have done that first but hey, it was an impulse buy) and I am just sussing out which beans to buy for my first grinding session.
It all looks like good fun so its good to be here
Cheers
Mark
Hi I'm a newbie and having a bit of a hard time navigating the forums, anyway I have been reading lots of useful info. Must admit that a lot of it goes over my head.
I have only been making my own coffee for a couple of years so I have much to learn. I started off with a sunbeam Cafe series EM600 and Sunbeam grinder.
I thought the fully automatics might be the way to go and purchased a Jura Impressa S9. Boy was I disappointed with the weak, bitter insipid taste I was producing even with freshly roasted beans.
even on the finest grind the puks were almost as coarse as sand. If you want to make two cups at once the amount of grind does not change it only adds more water. I telephoned the after sales support and was told that is the way it is, two shots just means doublr the water. The shots are barely hot enough in summer on a hot day, Winter even with the mug pre heated the coffee for want of a better word is just luke warm. Something wrong with my machine? No not according to Jura support, the temp I was getting was correct to their calculations. Anyway I'm back to the old Sunbeam and even that makes a nicer latte'.
I am a newbie and have been lurking on this forum for a short while, but have now decided to register and introduce myself
My name is Peter, I live in Adelaide, love my coffee (of course!) and have a Rocket R58 and Mazzer mini-e. I have been purchasing my beans from a local roaster who sells SO beans, but haven't venture outside much (eg blends), and perhaps, it's time that I do.
