  • Hi! Im new here. Go easy on me!

Hi Kopigeek, I'm Sprezzatura: I enjoyed trying a M2M a few months ago and think they're great. I was going to buy one from the company I work for (they ordered 4) and they disappeared before I could snag one!

      Hi mal.

      Thanks for the warm welcome.

My grandparents used drip filter coffee, so no roasting heritage for me.
My dad also used the same technique, pouring manually hot water into a paper filter filled with ground coffee.
This gradually changed into the automated drip filter coffee machine.
But my dad still prefers the manual option :-)

      • Hi all,
Stumbled across this amazing site after my trusty (but underperforming) super-auto finally gave up on me after 6 years. Regretted the super-auto as I lost total control of my coffee making (but it was kinda convenient). Now set on a Minore IV with a still undecided grinder (Mahlkonig Vario, Compak K3-T, Baratza Preciso or Rancilio Rocky...decisions decisions).
Back to trawling through the posts to help me make up my mind!!
        Lee.

        • Hi All,

Been lurking on the forums for a while but first post here. I've been making coffee at home for years, normally with a stove top mokka pot or french press but have only just moved into the world of home espresso. Im currently using a ROK manual espresso machine with a Breville 820 smart grind.

I also regularly make cold drip using a Tiamo rig. The latest batch was done using Campos ultimate beans at a 1:10 ratio, done over 9.5hrs with iced water.

          Cheers, Alex.

          • Hi guys, so I'm new, as would be evident. I'm still in school, finishing year 12. I very much enjoy coffee and I wish to learn how to make it properly.

              • Hi People,

Just joined up and still looking through posts.
I'm the owner of a little coffee shop in Tassie. I'm definitely not a barista but am learning as I go. I have regulars so I must be doing something right
I'm having issues with cup sizes so I'm off to find a place to post some questions.
Oh, I'm 44 and a girl, just incase you needed to know lol.
                Cheers

                • Rich Wood here. A yank living in Reno, Nevada so a long way from the Aussie coffee scene. A retired quality assurance engineer and coffee enthusiast. As a Reno resident also NOT a gambler. Casinos do not stay in business by giving away money.

I am primarily a vacuum coffee maker user rather than an espresso fan. I just started a thread to discuss older American vacuum brewing equipment as it was very popular in the USA from about 1930 to 1960 or so and is still readily available on ebay in the USA. Some, such as Nicro stainless steel coffee makers, is rugged enough so it should last virtually forever.

                  • Hello all.

I"ve been lurking here for a couple of weeks now gathering info. Now I've managed to go from "semi-serious barista follower" to roasting brewing my own & skipping the $12/day cafe habit altogether.

I started with a Europiccola & HG/DG roasting which I was really enjoying. But am getting ready to pass the Europiccola on and have upgraded to corretto roasting. Last week I bought a "very used" la Scala Butterfly off a "coffee machine technician" (what do they say about never buying a mechanic's car??). Turns out it might not have been quite as functional as he stated, but for $500 I'm not complaining that I need to do some corrective work on it (new OPV & probably the pump too; and then overhaul the group). Even so, I'm still brewing some of the best coffee I've ever had even in it's current state.

Sadly I'm still playing with the cheap(ish) Breville grinder (not the good one either!) ... perhaps when the Europiccola goes I can get a reasonable 2nd hand replacement.

... and 3 years ago I didn't even drink coffee - I joined an office with a strong coffee culture and got sick of people giving me strange looks when I ordered a hot chocolate (hmm, peer pressure ...).

                    anyway ... "hello all"

                    • Greetings all!

As many before me, I have been lurking, learning, occasionally chiming in, as I researched my new home coffee set up.

I spent over two decades living in Vienna, Austria, before returning to Australia two years ago. I learned to love the italian style espresso and other variations that are so common just across the Austrian border in Italy. Somehow those mountains managed to keep that excellent coffee at bay and for many, many years, I was forced to drink the Austrian version of the Italian originals which I found to be too watered down and lacking in body and flavour. Surprisingly, in the last few years a number of young coffee enthusiasts have opened up really excellent coffee shops/bars etc. that I think completely hit the spot!!!!!

Anyway, I returned with my trusty Europiccola and soon realised that while what I was making at home in Vienna was better than what I could buy on the street, the opposite was true here, and I realised an upgrade was necessary .... well that's how I justified it to myself.

This forum has been invaluable. I've picked away at all the advice given on various threads and about two months ago bought a Diadema/BFC Unico Splendor paired with a Lelit PL44MMT timed grinder from one of the sites sponsors. Thanks Charlie.

While my latte art still leaves something to be desired (mutant apricots and Rorschach images??), I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I've just ordered a Pullman tamper and some scales to weigh the grinds and have become a big fan of Coffee Alchemy's blends (Marickville, Sydney).

My nerdy descent into coffee-mania (as my wife calls it) has lead me to have some really great discussions with (mostly) guys working the machines in cafes around town, and I am really enjoying this obsession of mine.

Thanks to you all for making this a really informative forum.

                        • Hi I'm Tony,

I've been away from coffee for over 10 years, that's right nothing not a drop. I've recently got back on the horse and started drinking coffee again. At the moment I mainly drink decaffeinated coffee. 10 years away from caffeine takes it's toll, try it :-). Anyway I'm finding that I enjoy the taste of coffee way better this time round, I'm wondering if Decaf makes a difference to the taste and if there are really top notch decaf coffees on the market?

I'm open to the caffeinated coffees, just have to pick my moments as the caffeine sends me into a spin for a while, kinda reminds me of my clubbing days.

Anyway looking forward to interacting with you all.

                            • Hi All,

Been lurking for awhile and absorbed so much knowledge from the forums, I thought the least I could do is say hello!

Got a Saeco VV for my other half as a birthday present this year, and ever since I've been using it more than her! Currently, just changed the machine into a Gaggia Classic. Not a big step up but good enough for now.
Before this I've mostly enjoyed coffee from places that serve 5 Senses, Mailing Room, or the occasional Campos coffee beans.

We're drinking 5 Senses Dark Horse Blend currently but that might change soon as the forums influence might have swayed me into a corretto roaster.......and the gems from BeanBay.

I guess that says more than enough!

Thank you everyone for sharing all your wisdom!

                              • Hey all, I'm Jon.

I've started off as tea drinker and lately getting into coffee. Have learnt a lot in the past few months and was wondering if paying 4-5 dollars a cup of coffee everyday, I might as well get my own coffee set and it should pay off in 1-2 years!

What got me really into it and pushed me over the edge was watching this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REhhKr6efTo
I love the whole process of it.

So in the end, I've pulled the trigger and purchased a La Pavoni EL and a Baratza Preciso. I've also started off with Crompton Road and Dark Horse Blend.

Willing to learn more from you guys!
