    • Yo,

WA Based, and been a coffee drinker for what is probably the better part of my life.

Recently burned through a Cuadra Semi-Auto espresso machine (it died on me again, would not buy again), and have a ever growing collection of French Press, Cold Drip, Aeropress, etc units.
Excited to have an Elektra MCAL on the way, as the last few months have been tough without my beloved "spro" and also to add a little bit of bling to an otherwise bland kitchen counter.

What I drink is usually what's on offer from the guys and girls from Felix & Co. Namely blends and singles from Loaded, Proud Mary, and Dark Horse.

All up, keen to share a few things I've learned along the way, as well as learn a few new bits and pieces whilst I'm here.

      Cheers

      • Hi everyone!
        Just another newbie here.
My name is Vic and am from Melbourne Oz.
I've recently aquired a La Cimbali M27 Start C2 and currently under restoration. I'll more than likely need tonnes of help from everyone as progress continues.
I need a bit of help with the plumbing so I'll ask here or if someone can steer me to the right thread that'll be great. My question is does this machine require an external pump and what would be a good water filter/softener to use with it?
        Thanks heaps in advance

        • Welcome to CoffeeSnobs vman000. There are lots of threads dealing with various La Cimbali machines, most models are similar in design and construction, to be found here: Brewing Equipment - Extreme Machines ($3000+)

The manual for the M27 Start can be found here: http://coffeesnobs.com.au/documentat...on-manual.html This may or may not be the manual for your specific machine. La Cimbali has the nasty habit of using the same model number on different machines so you'll have to take a look at the manual and see if it is in fact for your machine.

All Cimbali machines I have seen have an internal pump.

          Java "Cimbali's rock!" phile

Welcome Vic, I am sure you will find a wealth of information on this forum.

Further to Javaphile's post, there is a search function near the top right side for some of your queries, including one of the latest threads relating to water filtration/treatment recommendations, including Chris from Talk Coffee RE: Brita's new C150 Finest, which I think would suit the typical Melb water - Refer to http://coffeesnobs.com.au/general-co...on-please.html

An alternative could be Everpure's Claris Ultra series.

            Cheers

Been an avid lurker on this site for the last month, slowing taking up the wealth of information. Problem is .. now I have the little seed planted .. cant go back to "poor" quality coffees.

Never knew coffee was so complex.

                THANKS CS

                • I signed up sometime ago, but with a new machine to learn and experience I figured it was time to get serious. I will probably lurk in the sub-$500 equipment forum (I purchased remanufactured Breville Barista Express BES870).

                          Thanks Mal

Nothing too over the top or exciting. Just running in my breville dual boiler and will be trying a few different roasts until I find something i like. Im in eatern suburbs in Sydney a short stone throw from Pedro at Coffee Parts so thats handy. Was tossing up between mazzer mini or eureka mignon but will probably be going with the mignon. Just need to decide on which colour. First world problems

                          • Lurker checking in! Mainly to say thank-you for the lively and established community you have here.

Researching and reading up on old threads has led me to by nice but budget set-up of an old Gaggia Classic and Smart Grinder, and given me the knowledge to at least start pulling some drinkable shots. Now to tweak and refine!

Thanks again, I'm sure I'll be posting as the inevitable upgrade-itis hits!

                              • Hi,

I was recommended this site after moving from Manchester (UK) to Melbourne 5yrs ago, I've come along way from my old lunchtime Nero americano habit & a stovetop with pre ground Italian coffee at home!
Ive had my Breville 800es & sunbeam stick conical grinder for a good few years now, but with the help of reading the many insightful & informative posts here & chatting to new friends, I'm now eagerly awaiting the delivery of a Wega branded K3T and a set of Breville single wall filters (found in NZ - Breville Aus no longer have them!)
now I just need to find some locally roasted beans (Rezzer) I like, and I'll be all set... Till upgraditis strikes!
Thanks all for a great source of information & opinion

                                Cheers
                                Dave
